Help with a Roland JV-880
Does anybody know what the FXM (frequency cross-modulation) parameter does? The synth engine only has one oscillator!

I looked it up becuae I saw your post and was curious to with only one ossilator.
I thought it would be mixing waveforms or something like that.Re: frequency cross modulation?

Hello.
Frequency Cross-Modulation is a basic form of Frequency Modulation. Check out the Synth Dictionary at the Artemio Labs web site for a definition of FM synthesis. FXM simply uses 1 carrier and 1 modulator. The carrier is the original sound coming from the WG (Wave Generator) in the Tone. The modulator frequency is the quotient obtained when dividing the carrier frequency by some constant number such as 1, 1.5, 2, or 3 (making the modulator frequency the same as or a lower frequency of the carrier).
The "Color" parameter determines the modulator frequency. The "Depth" parameter determines the amplitude of the modulator.

Thank you! That's very helpful. Just FM synthesis. Huh.
Each voice has four tones, and each one is a separate single-oscillator synthesis engine.
