OK. Switched the default to a newly-installed 'prosilver' theme.nathan wrote:Definitely open to updating the theme.
I don't like it either.StudioDave wrote:Is it not possible for the spam to be ended here? This morning every forum was topped by spam. Not attractive. Yes, I know to check back later, but a newbie directed here from one of my articles might think the site is just a spam collector and not bother returning.
We have a captcha (up until a couple of minutes ago). Evidently that doesn't provide much protection anymore these days. Word on the streets is that a simple-but-not-entirely-trivial Q&A-question works better. I installed that - it now asks you to name a linux distribution when signing up, and I'm accepting a list of most that I could come up with as valid answers. For this I had to upgrade the theme (see above, hence the boring blue).StudioDave wrote:How do the spammers get access to a board that requires a login ? Is there a way to foil attempts at logging in if it's not a real person? Would a system using a capcha work better?
Let's see if this helps.
FWIW, I'm pretty sure some percentage of spam is actually typed in by actual people. I double if we can ever really kill it. But let's see if we can get it down to a better level again.
