Rediscovered, just for fun

Post by Jan »

I just recently heard some very old tapes I made with my band around 15 years ago and although I had to laugh as I heard them again I couldn't help but wondering how we got some decent songs (I think, at least) out of our 16 year old heads then.

So if anyone is interested and doesn't mind the embarrassingly bad english, here you can hear what I did in the mid 90s:

Of course not recorded with Linux but with some of that old Roland digital multitrack recorders (VS 880, I think).

Good stuff! Really! I've always liked the mix of keyboards and rock guitars (and as for the English, don't worry, I've heard far worse)
Got any more? How long did you keep playing with your band back then?

Thanks a lot! We have been playing together for approximately one and a half years when we recorded this in the "Schweinestall Studio".

I have another song from this session. This was the time of Take That and all those boy bands we couldn't stand and our drummer wrote some lyrics which are also a little bit embarrassing language-wise. I will upload them soon.

This is the second song of that particular recording. As always, excuse the crappy english - rebels without a clue. ;-)

There are two bits where the sound vanishes, that's due to storing the tape in whatever space it fitted in.

Wow, thanks Matt! I had the exact same feeling when I heard this stuff again. I have to rock again, it seems.

I have one final song for today:

It's from 1998 with another band name and another singer, slightly better production value and one of our evergreens with our small fanbase then.

I just recently spoke with some friends from my musical past and we all had the idea to make all this stuff available to us and everyone who wants to hear it. So you were sort of guinea pigs to see if anyone could be interested in hearing this stuff. So if you want to hear more, just contact me and we'll figure out a way to make some music available.

I can not resist:

This is a recording from our practice space, worse recording than the previous songs, but it was fun nevertheless. This must be from the summer 1999 and we did a country (and western) song. I'm particularly proud of the end. Don't take this too seriously, it was not our style and more or less fooling around for fun. But if someone gets a laugh out of it, we certainly accomplished our goal here:

This is worth much more than a laugh, Jan. Pity about the recording quality, but still great. "I don't mind" and "life isn't fair..." really rock!

Thank you so much, Pat! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The sound is really a pity, you're right.

I have one more goody: This is from a gig in the KUZ Mainz in 2001 (with our third singer) and we were a little bit exhausted and out of tune (this was the end of the gig), but I still like the energy on this:

Nice one too! You're right, slightly out of tune but very tasty otherwise.
What was the name of your band in those days?
