Has anyone here ever used Lmms?
I'd like to know if anyone here uses Lmms on Linux to create music. If so, please post your Lmms projects here.

Re: Has anyone here ever used Lmms?
I use LMMS for all my projects without exception
For example this one: viewtopic.php?t=29107
I haven't found a good piano in LMMS but with a suitable soundfont I'm happy now.

You mean posting like in 'open source' ? Like in the attachment (just bunzip2 it before) ??
It's cool: *.mmp files are XML. Almost human language. Sometimes I extract melodies out of a *.mmp to create a 'sheet' of music.

Yes! You can post open source code, but you can also post your SoundCloud, YouTube, or other streaming service links that you use to post your music.

I wished, people would provide their music as downloadable files (.ogg, .mp3, ...), not through some streaming platform or youtube (youtube-dl doesn't work anymore on my systems).

Use yt-dlp instead: https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlpMarcVonWindscooting wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 10:47 pm I wished, people would provide their music as downloadable files (.ogg, .mp3, ...), not through some streaming platform or youtube (youtube-dl doesn't work anymore on my systems).

Re: Has anyone here ever used Lmms?
i did. but never entire tracks. the program is just too clunky.
also have to worry about having plug-ins available. because the built-in instruments. offer only a certain flavor. i have a few soundfonts. i purchased long ago from digital sound factory. so that's not a great problem. i know i could use polyphone. to augment my collection. out of old vst2 instruments for windows.
i don't like the system of automation in lmms. i don't remember well. because it was months since i last fired it up. but qtractor improves on it a bit. by insisting on coarse midi cc's.
of course there's no hope. of automating anything. that comes from carla. hosting lv2 or vst3. but this is pretty much with any program. without more complications.
it's great being able. to use zynaddsubfx inside lmms. that's why the majority of projects. in the "lsp" are full of that synth. but it's cpu intensive. on a two-core cpu computer. these days i prefer to use yoshimi instead. because the "fusion" gui version of zyn. was too buggy for me to use practically. when i installed it via "apt" on debian "bookworm" base. without enabling "kx.studio" repositories. i wanted to keep the zyn audio effects though.
i have used openmpt (windows-only app through wine) to compose midi tracks. which kind of sucks having to load samples. or use the built-in opl synth. even for drums and other such parts. export to "mid" file. then play it back with qb64 phoenix edition. (emulation of microsoft quickbasic/qbasic programming language for ms-dos.) while it exports to "wav". with a program i wrote. using a general midi soundfont. then use the resulting part in my song. no matter how cheap or dry it could sound. that's easier for me to get along with. than using lmms and its built-in synths.

I really like LMMS. It's simple and when you install LMMS, it comes with many resources like samples and preset.
Many things are missing but you can do these missing things outside of LMMS
I made a lot of music using LMMS:

Very good! I just listened to your music and I really liked it; some of the songs could be used in video games.ycollette wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2026 10:58 am I really like LMMS. It's simple and when you install LMMS, it comes with many resources like samples and preset.
