What's your video way to go?

Post by bulevardi »

Don't know what kind of setup you people use to edit and render your videos?

I recently tried ShotCut (as Rainmak3r suggested to me) and Openshot, but not my cup of tea.
Perhaps I have to put some more time in it to learn to work with it.

But finally I used my DAW (Reaper) in which I can easily add video too, and also use it to master my audio at the same time.
Or record over it in a separate track, to cover mistakes I played in the video.
I made an example yesterday, where I stacked multiple horizontal videos vertically, suitable for reels, tiktok or shorts,...

I want to record more about my working process later on, but need some handy consistent durable workaround.
How do you people go with that?

Kdenlive I played with already, long time ago when I tried Ubuntu Studio, it came in the package.

Video is all new to me, although I made several things with it in the last years, it feels new every time again.
I'm more the photo guy, and I'm playing with the idea of making movies based on photos in motion.
I'm convinced I'm going to learn much about video in 2026 8)

While editing video, my screen always trembles, probably because of the high CPU consumption.
I suppose it's recommended to add some extra graphics card or so, perhaps that will help?
Should do some more research on that.

Kdenelive and DaVinci Resolve are the ones I used. Made 1 or 2 videos with Resolve, but not sure if I will use it more, I am more familiar with kdenlive. I tend to get new kdenlive version of it directly from their web site, one that is delivered with distro is normally pretty old.

Hi,

I use Cinelerra-GG and love it, I also use Ardour's Video timeline feature when Audio needs enhancement or restoration. I export from Cinelerra as H264 in MKV container with WAV Audio and Ardour allows me to mux the Video and new Audio together in MP4 without re-encoding the Video. Cinelerra is not exactly easy compared to some but if you commit some time to learning and reading it's excellent manual it is a very powerful NLE.
