Unfortunately motu16a are suddenly stopping recording after a while even when the raw alsa device is used by the DAW with @mixingmanatee firmware it requires to re-initialize recording from the daw side to work again for a while.

@mixingmanatee if there is anything you can do about the sudden audio stop bug i would be grateful, otherwise the firmware is working perfectly

any updates on if this got resolved? I have a motu 1248 and im about to take the dive into linux for gaming/mayyyybbeeee audio production

Hi! So, has anyone working 828es with linux, or only new 828 2024 works well?

Especially interested in vendor mode.

Has 24ai, 3 ADA8200 and UMC 1820

Now thinking what to do: 828es in vendor mode + 24ai + all ADAs

or continue to buy UMC1820s

its a pain to have no linux support in 2024, I sold Ableton to get Bitwig in Linux

I was ready to invest in MOTU devices, but since 2020 I waiting for linux support

New firmware from motu: 1.4.7
@AudioNarwhal @mixingmanatee does it have good changement for us? I've upgraded today my ultralite avb, 828es, stage b16 and 8m. I've not really tested it but in a very first test the playback jumped again..i hope it's only a little problem due to a wrong start up..

New firmware from motu: 1.4.7

WIth a lowlatency kernel I had some rare modulo-8 channel hopping when my computer was under heavy I/O- or networking load.
That vanished completely with a realtime kernel.

I use 1.4.0 on my UltraLite AVB (old version without ESS chips) but I think I will test 1.4.7.

EDIT: no abnormalities so far

The 1.4.7 firmware doesn't seem to be a firmware for us, it's not working on ultralite avb es nor on 828es..
I'm quite disappointed, i spent years with this problem and i think the best choice will be to sell all my motu avb setup (ultralite avb es, 8m, stage b16, 828es). The biggest regret is that they sound great, i can control them with a browser and the setup is great for my needs. But it's not possible to listen with the clients saying: ah yes this distorsion is only on the playback and it come often but goes away in a few minutes. It's absolutely not professional. I hope one day ALSA, MOTU or the kernel will definitively solve this problem but i don't know if my patience will wait so far.

For me the situation is still the same with the latest firmware. Not that i had hope in this one since it was obvious in the release notes that there was nothing about our hopping/bitcrushing issue.

So i tried again almost every trick and nothing worked (bitcrushing/hopping happening in seconds)

  • drumfix's driver, ultralite in UAC mode 24io, kernel preempt=full threadirqs
  • drumfix's driver, ultralite in UAC mode 24io, kernel preempt=none threadirqs
  • snd_usb_audio with implicitfb=1, ultralite in UAC mode 24io, kernel preempt=full threadirqs
  • disabling hyperthreading, set in performance mode, reducing max freq and increasing min freq...

Id love to try the vendor mode again, if and only if someone comes with a dkms config for the patch.

[edit] im back where i regularly set after a firmware update :

  • should i go back to 1.2.something (the thing is i still dual boot in windows for work with the ultralite)
  • are there really people using this interface in AVB with linux and where is that usb to eth/avb adapter that does not cost an arm and a leg
