Greetings from Belgium

Post by Androo »

Hey, just found this forum trying to get started with Linux (Ubuntu Studio) audio & migrate away from Win as much as possible. I found that User @geoffrey made a console for Focusrite devices, which got me over a big hurdle, so props to him. Looking forward to learning more & helping if I am able.

Rock on.

Hi,
I'm new too and a big thank you to @geoffrey for creating tools like the Focusrite panel that make the transition really smooth. The open source community is full of such gems.

Hi Androo, I'm Bulevardi,
And... I have to admit... I use Linux for audio too.

Yeah, I know. It started innocently enough. Just a little dual-boot here, an ALSA config tweak there. But then... I saw the terminal. The console. JACK spoke to me. I started compiling kernels like they were drum kits.

It got worse.

I bought a Focusrite. I told myself it would just work. (It didn’t.) I ended up deep in the forums, tweaking udev rules and praying to the pipewire gods.

But then... I found salvation. His name... was Geoffrey. This glorious bastard had already done everything. The scripts, the tweaks, the soothing README. Geoffrey, if you’re out there: I owe you my soundcard... and my virginity.

Now, here I am. PulseAudio-free for 487 days. Ardour doesn’t crash anymore. The XRuns are gone. And I can finally say...

I'm proud to route audio with a terminal.

I’m hoping for a smooth transition into this group. Much love and low latency!

(I only wanted to say Hi, I'm from Belgium too, but the message got a little longer)
