Hello LINUX Musicians...

Post by FxLinux »

Hello
I am a 'almost' retired Electronics Technician and I am a non professional Musician.

So, as you may have guessed, I am getting back into it.

I am a Windows user and 20 years ago I played with Cubase Studio 4... then life got in the middle and I let that go.

Back into it, in 2022.. and in June 2023 I started to finally get back into 'guitar'.
I did have a possibly 30 hours Classical lessons 'decades ago' (including some basic theory) and although I had a cheap Electric Guitar, I never really got into it - as in self-train to learn to use plectrum (the solo way etc.) - I can use my fingers well.
I am now at over 16 months self training and I finally forgot I have a plectrum in my hand and also I can move around the fretboard.

It is nice to get that result after a lot of work put into it - time permitting - I cannot believe I am often not even looking at the fretboard... I guess if you work hard, it pays off.

Back to LINUX #########

Regarding Linux, I have always dabbed at it since before 'Lindows', remember that?

I also had a dab at Ubuntu 12 on an old XP Laptop, then left it alone.

Retried Ubuntu 20, I think it was on a pc dual boot, I was still not back into music.

Now seeing the like of Windows 11 - which has become a spying and advertising machine and gets in the middle of anything you do - OBVIOUSLY - I have to leave it.

So, I am now trying various distro and I have to say Mint is ... well... Mint - really good.
I also tried last Ubuntu (a bit messy I guess, I am sure they will fix problems soon) and Fedora 39 - I think it was - not bad at all.

Bear in mind, I am not fluent on Linux, some things are coming back - the basic commands.

At present I have installed AV Linux based on MX into a Toshiba i3 1.7GHz 12Gb laptop - yes it is not super specs but seems to work fine.

There are a few things I do not really like about MX - Mint is better in my view - on the user side, especially if coming from Windows.

Now I am starting the learn to use AV Linux... and have some problems - as expected.

Will post on other forum thread.

I hope someone can help, as I am kind of fed up with it.

Congratulations! Keep practicing. Flexible fingers can have it's benefits in many many other situations!

I think I fixed the problem meanwhile. I ran some tests with Overloud and got it to work on my system.
You should try the steps I took aswel (in my final post in that topic). Feel free to add feedback if it's not clear or not working on your system.
