I'm a long time Reaper user (since the Win days, actually), but I'd love to try something else -- more Linux specific, so to say. Currently looking at Qtractor and ZRythm. Would appreciate any opinions on both - or maybe recommendations for whatever other sequencer supporting plugins.

Re: QTractor or ZRythm
You got me wrong at that, not leaving, no. I just want to try something else, to have a fresh view maybe. Sorry, I wasn't quite clear probably in the original post. On the other hand, you are probably right in presuming that neither Qtractor nor ZRythm would give a really refreshing learning curve, as both are (or seem to be) quite traditional sequencer DAWs.

If you're sequencing MIDI I recommend Qtractor, if you're sequencing audio I recommend Ardour.

Thanks for the suggestions, mostly MIDI, but I shall look into Ardour as well. Never actually considered it before.

Re: QTractor or ZRythm
I use MusE: https://muse-sequencer.github.io/ which seems to be more Linux friendly than my previous DAW, LMMS: https://lmms.io/
Or you could try PureData: http://puredata.info/
Or Sunvox: https://www.warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/

Re: QTractor or ZRythm
I was a long time Reaper user (from v2) but lately switched to Ardour (for recording, arranging) and Mixbus (for mixing).
Renoise is incredibly fun and rewarding too. Renoise Redux is an amazing sampler (and sequencer).

There's also Bespoke Synth if you want to widen your view (or hearing range, so to speak) even more.

Re: QTractor or ZRythm
Well, there is always Tracktion Waveform to provide alternative approaches.
After some humble years it became a strong contender again. By version 12.5, and latest since the current version 13, it is quite gratifying to use it!
The FREE version is famous for not being restrictive, allowing the user to work on projects as big as wished, which also comprises the work with third party plugins. The PRO version adds to it several enhancements aiming at a faster workflow, then. Besides, PRO comes with some extra instruments and sounds, keeping you busy for quite some time. Things are visually not always appealing. The value is found in the offered musical possibilities, instead! The MIDI tools and instruments, especially the enhanced options delivered with the PRO version, might interest you.
This video glances on some MIDI tools of Waveform and I find them always good to spark inspiration : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__o3gG67oI4
Coming from another DAW will need some efforts to adopt to the Waveform workflow, though. Well, it is worth it. Ones fluent in handling Waveform, it is quite fast to use!
Refining my amateur musicianship by reviewing my rehearsals.
Adding more and more extra sounds and post processing to it.
(Tracktion WAVEFORM PRO & Ocenaudio @ Debian with KDE(X11) on older Laptop with SSL12 audiointerface)

Re: QTractor or ZRythm
Honestly REAPER can do everything that every other DAW recommended in this thread can do and more, though if you just wanna try something new then I guess any DAW mentioned is a fair option. I'd personally recommend getting into extensions to make REAPER more novel and function in ways it never has before, it can be very fun and refreshing.
I don't understand the need to use both given they use the same codebase. Ardour and Mixbus are effectively the same program aside from the mixer, they can even open each other project files.
