If only I would understand what this means in terms of what notes are played.

Oh yeah, to keep it simple, only watch up to the 4:42 mark. Sorry...
This might be exactly what I need, although it makes me think again, I need two tracks, one for the muted notes, one for the other.

Yep I am in trouble, but love funk, so there is no escaping this.

Looked at the prices, and that did not make me happy.

Around 119 per piece, 1729 dollar for everything :(

Nothing will beat the real thing, but while you're thinking about dropping a dime, there are quite a few free guitar soundfonts (sf2) floating around out there to toy around with. Add effects and what-nots..

https://musical-artifacts.com/

also you could load one of these into Vestige and give it a go.

Thank you

Already had seen the rock guitar one by musicbear. I was quite impressed.

Probably already have all dsk guitars, but wont hurt to check them again if the funk guitar sound is there.

Not gonna spend that much money on ample guitar.

For 119 dollar you only have one guitar. I was thinking 30 dollar max.

Maybe I am not giving up yet.

I downloaded the free version of Ample Guitar, and it does work in LMMS, probably also the strum part.

Now I need to figure out though, how this plugin works.

I did already find the strum part were you can pick also if the up or down strike is muted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qj30Tx3V3s

I am back to LMMS, Ardour drove me almost insane.
With all kinds of respects, I want a piano roll but this might have to do with me not recording music I play, only exception some midi which LMMS can record.
Looking at reaper though, because it has swing.

For some part this is totally frustrating to me.
Yes LMMS is a bit limited but for what I want to do its not missing much.
Swing and humanization.

After an intensive search I learned that two daw do have this out of the box.
Cubase and Ableton.
Which don't have a Linux version. :(

I love your tenacity!

I'm only learning about DAWs (I am very much an acoustic musician), but I do know about guitar.

That's left hand muting.

If you look at the video, when the (excellent) guitarist starts playing along around 1:03, do you see how his index finger barres the first five strings? If he lifts the pressure with his left hand, the notes he's strumming will eventually become a little precussive beat. One of the first things you are taught if you take guitar lessons is to experiment with how little pressure you can use with your left hand to sound a clean note - he's really just doing that exercise over and over again.

I think it would be really hard to play that on any other instrument than guitar, or something similar.

To me, conceptually it is better to think about that as a drum track with some guitar notes played in place of individual beats rather than strumming a guitar.

Does that make sense?

Midi Chord + Midi Strum of x-42 plugins also works.

Yes it does because that is what I am hearing. A rhythm.

I probably just need to try this:

Kurtis Blow uses E min7, B min7, E min, A min7 in The Breaks. (according to chordify)

Then listen how that sounds and maybe add the strumming manual.

Maybe I am overthinking it, because I did this with LMMS, not sure if that is called strumming though.

I don't want to throw stones at anyone who creates any sort of music, but I can honestly say that to my ears you can't recreate the sound of a guitar. The notes are always too accurate.

So yes, I'd tend to agree with you. Add the strumming manually.

Or get someone to play it for you! I would if I had an electric guitar, the stuff in the guitar video is played well but it isn't technically that advanced - a lot of musicians could do that piece. You could learn it in much less time than this thread has been going.

Maybe that's were my problem starts.

I hear something I really like, and think how hard can it be? (in LMMS)

On the bright site, I often learn a lot from these "mistakes".

If the sound of strummed guitar is at all important to you (more than getting one song out of your ears), spending a small amount (anywhere from 50 - 200 USD) for a cheap guitar and putting in a short time learning the simplest chords is a far better use of your time and money than trying to emulate it via virtual instruments.

That's what I would recommend aswel, or borrow a guitar from a friend for a while.
Learning the chords is maybe hard in the beginning, a bit of a learning curve, but once you can play it, you know it for the rest of your life, like cycling or swimming.

And I see this thread is already 5 years old,... I bet you would have done it already in a couple of weeks with a real guitar.
Strumming, and jamming and improvising around is just nice.

Sometimes, not all strings get played, sometimes some get muted, up down, not always the same patterns. You'll experience your freedom.
You'll soon play on your own rhythm/tempo based on your emotions, making it more human, instead of strictly recreating a chord pattern.

Gonna think about getting a guitar.

My soundcard does have a guitar connection. Focusrite scartlett solo.

I have off course not been trying to do this for 5 years. I have been taking breaks :P

I use a Focusrite solo too, it's easy, working on Linux out of the box.
Anyway, that counts for electric guitars, which is easiest that way.
Acoustic is a bit more complicated, best with a separate condenser mic. There are guitars with built-in mic but you still have some noise when recording. Unless you find a handy way filtering it out with EQ and Compression and stuff like that, I'm not good with that.

I haven't recorded audio in LMMS yet, though... it's years ago since I've used LMMS, don't know how it evolved.
I personally use Reaper as DAW, which is for me my preferred thing.

For guitars, you'll probably go watching other forums like:
