Arturia minilab 3

Post by kpanic »

Hello everyone, I would like to buy an Arturia MiniLab 3 and use it as a keyboard with maybe some mapping on renoise.

Do you know if I will need wine to configure the keyboard or if it will work out of the box?
Thanks in advance!

Arturia don't respect linux users. The keyboard has a lot functions that need the arturia's software, and those functions are midi info, you don't need software wall for that. A lot of companies have this new model. Even for live sessions that way is very unproductive. Maybe look another brand or second hand keyboard. For new models the novation launch key series are very easy to use.

Many users have had problems with arturia software (for update firmware and change options) and wine. Please look to midi keyboard that respect the STANDARDS, in this case, the midi standard, an 80's technology, in this time midi structure may be plug and play.

I saw that Ardour uses a binding map for the Arturia Minilab 3. I don't know if this also applies to Linux though. Has anyone been able to successfully connect the midi controller to Ardour under Linux?

Don't. Arturia hardware requires software to configure it. Sometimes that'll work in Wine and sometimes it won't. And Arturia is one of the biggests sinners when it comes down to rubberizing, see this modwiggler topic.

You should be able to use it right out of the box without needing to install any additional software or drivers.

I couldn’t find any information on whether you would need Wine to configure the keyboard. However, Wine is a compatibility layer that allows you to run Windows applications on Linux, so it’s possible that you might need it if you’re running Linux and want to use Windows software with the MiniLab.

Wine works pretty great on many tasks, but on hardware related things, like configurator for some device, it is useless. They very commonly contain own drivers, and such those doesnt't work with wine.

Hey,
You can configure your MiniLab 3 with Sysex Controls from Linux.

Can you also set the "Mode" of a knob or pad? See screenshot below. I have a very old version of the 'Minilab Control Center' software that works just fine in Wine.

For MiniLab 3 and MiniLab mkII, yes.
For Minilab, only global controls have been added for now.
If you can provide a MIDI Console Output log from MCC of storing and recalling a template, I can probably add it.

I'm afraid that I don't know exactly what you mean. Do I need a newer version of Arturia's Midi Control Center (MCC) for that? And does that run in Wine on Linux?

Yes, newer MCCs have a MIDI Console. I think it doesn't run well on Wine. If you have a Windows virtual machine, you can run it easily.

If you don't want to run Windows, a wireshark USB dump might be enough with this old program. Load a memory slot, then send it back into the MiniLab. And record that with Wireshark.

Hmm, does this old version always load the current memory slot?
