Hello there !

Post by LLZZ »

Hello (from France),
I join this forum as I'm gradually migrating from MacOS to Linux (ZorinOS). I'm using Reaper as a main DAW and Pure Data. So far, I'm happy with what I can do under Linux despite the fact that it takes time to get new habits and skills.
My concern is that I'm using plug-ins from Izotope which are not available under Linux unless using Wine. I will try that.
I am going to dig into the forum to learn more about being a linux musician !

Hey hey, welcome to the forum.

Yeah plugins are the biggest issue in Linux, though yabridge does handle a lot of windows plugins quite well. So far the biggest problem I've heard was Kontact, but people tend to be able to get a lot of other stuff running. A big issue from what I know is plugins that are using some kind of locking mechanism. I know Ilok can run via wine properly and you can use plugins protected by it, dunno if and what Izotope uses. You could also try the yabridge github issues and discord to check discussions about various plugins there.

Welcome from me too.

I don't think iZotope stuff will play nice in Linux. Ages ago I got some plugins from RX5 to work but RX10 is out now and more locked down AFAIK.
There's a good database of Linux plugins and software at https://linuxmusic.rocks/ . I've given up trying to make Win plugins work; there's almost always a native Linux one that works just as well.
If you're looking for something specific, just ask here.
