I am having a strange issue with the VST3 plugins in Carla.

When I try to load a VST3, no matter which, it takes a little while to load (like 5 seconds) and then the Trigger plugin appears.

LV2 works fine in Carla, and both VST3 and LV2 work fine in Ardour. So, it might be an issue with Carla, but I thought I should check here first, as past versions had no problem in Carla.

It's a known Carla problem with support of VST3. At this moment Carla does not support shared objects with multiple plugins inside.

Yes, this is Wayland issue.

I switched to XFCE. Problem solved. Best decision in 2024.

A general question: what is the difference between using the VST3 or LV2 versions of the LSP plugins, are there any noteworthy advantages/disadvantages? Or isn't there anything worth mentioning regarding this question and the choice is more about the particular DAW in use might support the one or the other format with less glitches?

It mostly depends on your host, which plugin format support is the best for it.
But according to the latest events, I would like to recommend to not to use LV2 because the primary and only one maintainer of LV2 standard is inadequate.

I commented on the thread but you guys need to sort things out personally rather than drag your arguments out about in public. I don't understand why developers, who are in a quite small niche interest aren't talking more personally and cordially. Rather I see instances every so often of public slanging matches across mailing lists and git threads.

That's sad to see but ultimately an all too familiar scenario.

Hopefully you can get this sorted out together and Linux audio will continue to develop. Both the LV2 format and the LSP plugins. All the best to both. In the spirit of brotherhood.

Because people who are brilliant enough to develop things this complex and have such highly advanced skillsets are often not great at 'Customer facing' stuff. I recently had a similar dustup with the Enlightenment developer and had to realize that he had absolutely no interest or concern and placed no value on the deployment side of things, those keys just aren't on his piano... He does what he does and the reply was almost identical "if you don't like it code your own fix!"

Most Wozniaks should probably have a Jobs and vice versa ..lol

Well said! For the cadre of users not from North America, a few may not recognise that 'wozniak' and 'jobs' refer to the leaders of Apple Inc, who managed to import hundreds of billions of customer dollars with teamwork and more teamwork, despite x, y, and z.

Kindness and respect are contagious in healthy environments, are immune to IQ and brilliance,
and can be used to treat mild cases of assitopia

The freedom attached to linux comes at the price of accountability. In commercial developement, people get fired or laid-off, or promoted
as the boss sees fit, with input from partners or a board of directors in larger businesses, some of whom monitor stockholders opinions, again, teamwork can be healthy.

For linux devs who are their own boss, there are few constraints, and there are some great innovations that may never have grown if the financial liabilities of commercial developement were imposed. The flip side being that coders need a roof and electricity and food, so support in it's various forms is very important.

Most of the great players have multiple pianos

I'm pretty sure everyone around the world with even a casual interest in IT knows who Jobs and Wozniak were/are. We do have computers and smartphones outside of North America, you know.

For what it's worth, I think that Wozniak is the one who best represents kindness and respect between those two.

Good point! My point was simply the need for both, technical and so-called 'people skills', apply where necessary..
