[SOLVED] Native Access dependencies problem

Post by amc252 »

Hello everybody,

I decided to try to install the free Kontakt Player for Windows using Wine (version 8.0.1 on Debian Testing).
I downloaded Naive Access 2, and Wine installed the program and created the desktop launcher.

When I first ran Native Access, I got a popup error message saying:
Please grant permission to native Access to install dependencies. Please restart Native Access and try again.

I tried to fix it following this thread:
https://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=36977
created the 'C:\users\Public\Downloads\ folder and installed wine powershell.
But now I get this error message:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZxyQIe ... sp=sharing

Any suggestions as to how to fix this issue?

I finally figured this out.
For those interested, I first ran winecfg and set the Windows version to 10.
Then I downloaded the legacy Native Instruments installer from this link:
https://support.native-instruments.com/ ... ng-Systems
and it worked just fine.

The legacy Native Access works, but it only allows to install versions of products released before the end of 2023. (Even when winecfg Windows version is 11.) For example, the last available Kontakt 7 is 7.6.1, released 2023-10-12; 7.7.0 (released 2023-11-08) and later versions are hidden.

(I can still download a recent Kontakt 7.10.6 installer in Windows with Native Access 2, copy it to Linux, and after installation Native Access 1 shows that I have 7.10.6 installed and shows the changelog for 7.10.6, 7.10.5, etc. in the product details pane.

After I've logged in Native Access 1, then Native Access 2 also becomes authenticated (it does not ask me to log in)! Nevertheless, although NA2 now allows me to install the latest versions, something goes wrong at the last step and it does not register products as installed, and e.g. when I attempt to use them in Kontakt, they start in demo mode. However, I can go back to NA1 to register them. So the current workflow that does not require Windows is the following:

  1. Launch winecfg and set Windows version to 8 or later (11 is fine), otherwise NA will hide newer versions of packages not deemed compatible with Windows 7.
  2. Install NA1 (1.14.1) from https://support.native-instruments.com/ ... ng-Systems
  3. Launch NA1 and log in.
  4. Rename "C:/Program Files/Native Instruments/Native Access" to "Native Access 1" or something, or NA2 will overwrite it.
  5. Install Powershell from https://github.com/PietJankbal/powershe ... r-for-wine
  6. Install NA2 https://www.native-instruments.com/en/s ... -access-2/
  7. Launch NA2, optionally configure the paths where it downloads and installs content, and try to install what you need. It will do that, but it will not register the installation as completed
  8. Launch NA1 and add installed content by choosing Locate of the product installed in NA2. This probably works only for products that were initially released before 2024

Running NI software is still too convoluted for me. I want things to simply work. I look forward to the day that Native Access 2 works without hacks. Of course, by that time, there will probably be a Native Access 3. :D

I really want to get some of the high quality guitar and bass apps that don't yet exist in Linux--such as the Shreddage plugins, for example.

In the meantime, I have decided to use Musiclab's RealGuitar products, which supposedly work well in WINE. I'm just waiting for a big sale by MusicLab. :D
