"Waves Central" usable in wine, as of September 2024?

Post by talby »

What is the current situation for using plugins from Waves in wine, which seem to need the license software "Waves Central" to run in wine?
I consider purchasing some plugin bundle from Waves and then use the plugins in my DAW installed as a native Linux app. I hope that I can use the Wave plugins via wine/yabridge, then. Would someone have experience if this can be set up without extra complications like code compilation or even having to make changes to some code? Is this possible by simply following the usual wine/yabridge plugin installation guides?

I found here on the forum the information about Waves Central having stopped working in wine around 2020 because of a problem, that a new Waves Central version that time required Microsoft Powershell, but Powershell was that time not sufficiently supported by wine. Hopefully this problem became solved meanwhile and current Waves Central software runs just fine in wine?

It may or may not work, you can test it and report back your findings here

PS, this company is notorious for mistreating customers and persecuting at least one dev from the Linux music scene

1) Surely there are more palatable choices than this mafia when it comes to handing out money
2) There are companies and devs who develop plugins for Linux, why not support them instead with your hard earned bread

Yes, I am considering this, always! This is why I am using the PRO version of Tracktion Waveform beyond my needs being already covered by the FREE version.
