Drumgizmo is my favorite out of them all including commercial plugins. It's because of the bleeding and because of the raw drum kits. I get to mold it the way I need it to sound. In fact when I get a recording from my band when I'm doing the band stuff and not my personal stuff, DG sounds exactly like the raw material that my drummer would send me. Because of DG, I know how to handle bleeding and how to clean it up plus the room mics. For me I do metal and heavy hard rock so I need to have that big room because say if I was doing a song that needed a led Zeppelin feel to it I have the room to do that and yes some people can say you can use reverb but if by now people can't hear reverb and the artificial sound I don't know what to say but I always hear when that artificial room is created.
DG may be raw and yes the boys due to covid slowed them down but I don't think the project is dead but it sounds the most natural out of everything that's available to Linux. At least to me it could be different for others but I'm just giving it from my perspective. I've done the same drum patterns with a few of the kits available and then sent it to people that just like music and the DG people always ask if that's my drummer and the other ones they just say hey that's a nice beat so if at least to me if they are asking if that's my drummer it means that DG sounds more natural like if a human is actually playing it.
DG aka drumgizmo is my favorite by far. I just wish they kind of made it a little bit more attractive like the AVL kits which are awesome by the way but Glen was explaining something about why there's no room and I couldn't understand. I'm simple when it comes to this I just need to have either a mono or stereo room track.
And I've used it on metal and people love DG in some of the metal songs. That is the songs that I've used it on. Also DG has the ability to play loose to give actual more of a human feel I guess that's there to take care of that round robin wish to this day I don't have a clue on how it works because I've used it and I've never heard the difference on what it says it's supposed to do but I can tell right away when I start messing with some of the knobs in DG to adjust the human feel. And here's another bonus on DG, I will put full bleed of course on the room and the overheads and then I till all of the bleed for the high hats the ride and all of the skins on the kit and then I blend all that bleed back in from the overheads and the room so then I can really focus in on the skins because no bleed.
Again that's my take so remember contact the guys from DG to see where things are because I'm pretty sure the project is still alive in fact I'm praying that it is. All day things set above it's all my opinion and others are entitled to their own but that's just my take on it.
