CollaB3 V2 for Linux ?

Post by starfry »

I see there's a V2 of CollaB3 out https://sampleson.com/collab3-free-tonewheel-organ.html. I just downloaded it.

The thing is, it's Win/Mac only this time (as all their stuff seems to be). Just wondering if there's any chance of a Linux version... I did ask but got the stock answer ("we don't have a Linux build for this plugin" and" we currently focus on macOS and Windows") , so just calling out here as I think this had a GPL license (https://sampleson.com/collab3-free-tonewheel-organ.html) and I believe LibreWave (@d.healey ) was involved in the project and might be able to shed some light?

If this was available for Linux, it'd be a nice-to-have but I can otherwise stick with the original version which meets my basic needs :D

My involvement was minor, mostly code cleanup. But the code was GPL so it should still be GPL - did Sampleson provide the source code or a method to access it with your purchase? If you send me a link to the source I can compile a Linux VST3 for you.

I just got zip files: one mac, one windows. Plus a license key. No links to source or mention of GPL.

Code: Select all

CollaB3-FREE-V2.5.2-Mac-Installer.zip ==> CollaB3-V2.5.2-FREE-Win-Installer.exe
CollaB3-V2.5.2-FREE-Win-Installer.zip ==> CollaB3-FREE-V2.5.2-Mac-Installer.pkg

When I emailed Augusto (who the mailinglist mail was from) I got a reply from someone else and no reference to my question about GPL.

So the link to the source code is included in the product license... https://sampleson.com/collabsrc.html

Unfortunately I won't be able to build it for you. I didn't realise but it uses Faust based effects and my build system isn't setup with Faust.

Does this repo still represent the actual status of the dev tree?

From a quick glance, they are similar but different. I looked at a couple of files and they are very similar but there are differences. Also, the zip is missing the license files. Things that might be useful for building (Packaging/GNULinux/build_gnu.sh perhaps) are not in the zip.

I don't know how one would go about building this - there are no instructions.

Unfortunately it's not straight forward.

You'd need to setup your system for building HISE with Faust first. Use my development branch - https://github.com/davidhealey/HISE/tree/development

If you're on a recent Debian based system you might run into some issues when building HISE, there are solutions on the HISE forum if you search for them. If you're not a Debian based distro then I don't know what issues you might face.

Once you've successfully compiled HISE you can open the project in HISE. Then you need to build the DSP networks, this is done through the export menu.

If all goes well you should then be able to build the plugin, again through the export menu.

Are the prebuilt Linux versions of V1 available somewhere?
