Massive X - is there any solution to make the preset list work in the meantime?

Post by GoaSkin »

The recent versions of Massive X work with WINE but the preset list remains empty. This issue is known since a couple of years now.

The reason is that there is a preset-scan routine which opens all preset files to gather some information to create a SQLITE database file (content.db) containing the preset information which is used by the preset browser - and if the scan is performed with WINE, the content.db database is incomplete after the preset scan - some tables are missing.

Replacing Yabridge by Carla, LinVST or vice versa does not change anything. Even if you run a Windows-based plugin host with Massive X inside, this behavior is the same. I also tried to configure WINE to get as much debug messages as possible but there isn't even a single function reported which fails while the plugin scan is being performed.

When Massive X 1.4 was out, nobody knew a solution or workaround. But do we know more in the meantime?

Something similar is with Knifonium, tested that (free demo), and no presets.

Sure ultimate solution for running windows plugins is separate windows machine (real or vm) and connect with audiogridder.

This is where my presets are located: .wine/drive_c/users/Public/Documents/Massive X Factory Library/Presets

For those unfamiliar with this oddball but fine sounding synth, the presets are a separate archive and a separate install.
Must have been Oktoberfest when they were coding the preset system  Even win/mac users don't like it's capability
when finally installed.

This is the latest post I've found on this. Have the same issue whether its on debian based, arch, fedora.

I see my presets listed in .wine/drive_c/users/Public/Documents/Massive X Factory Library/Presets but they will not show up in Massive X , even after copying them over. I also tried creating a user preset from a windows installed instance and pasting into the Linux one - does not work. Only presets that will populate are user presets created within the Linux installed version. Wondering if someone has found a way to use this as a basis for a workaround.

@glowrak guy I have installed all the presets from the native access for massive x, not seeing them like from your screen grab.

I am not sure how I managed it.

But I have got Massive working with all the presets working. Massive 1.5.9 [r78] released in 2021.
I only got this because it came with my focusrite.

My DAW: Reaper.
Ubuntu Studio 22.04
Latest bleeding edge WINE.

I also use Native Access 1.14.1 [R156] released in 2021.
Says fully installed in that as it should.

I play Massive with a Nektar SE25 midi keyboard.
I can write out my paths where Massive is installed if that were to help. Here's a picture:

I get picture too large. Anyway.

Note that Massive works in your DAW by itself; it does not need to be installed in Kontakt.

Hi, Massive and MassiveX are two unrelated instruments. A braindead marketing move by NI, mixing the titles, leading to occasional confusion and frustration among their customers. Massive has always worked for me, still one of the most used plugins in some genres, while MassiveX required a bit of luck, and some certain software installed. I've read that experienced sound designers think it's one of the best sounding instruments available.

I stop updating things when a threshold of useful plugins/instruments has been reached, and keep extra installs suited for specific purposes.
The linux ports of the U-he synths/effects are excellent, and have simple bash script installers, and are world-class products we can easily use.

irfanview is a windows graphics tool that easily resizes, scales, or changes formats, to get pics small enough to use here.
A .png can simply be exported as a .jpg and may be small enough. There is also a dialog to modify resolultion, and quality settings for saving images in smaller file size. I need cover photos to be 3000 x3000 for distrokid uploads, easily accomplished, as are making screengrabs smaller for the forum standards.
Cheers
