Upgrades

Post by raboof »

The forum could use some various upgrades. I'm looking into this this evening, possibly there will be some unavailability while the forum is migrated to another host, or you may see the forum in readonly mode.

For some reason the icons sometimes look blurry. Reloading generally fixes it. I'll attach screenshots below. (For reference, I'm viewing on Firefox ESR, on Debian Testing.)

Good to keep things up-to-date, thanks.

Might there be any possibility of getting this plugin installed?

I *think* that's just the theme getting a facelift, so the 'blurry' icons are cached images from the old version of the theme, and a refresh (or waiting long enough) fetches the new version.

Could be. I saw the glitch several times yesterday, but haven't so far seen it since booting up my computer today.

I have also banned Anthropic's AI ClaudeBot since it was hitting the forum to the point that it produces noticeable load. Get your hands off our copyrighted text.

The following seems to have done the trick for now:

Code: Select all

BrowserMatchNoCase "claudebot" bad_bot
Order Deny,Allow
Deny from env=bad_bot

We've had a lot of issues with AI bots on forums.debian.net including, or especially, Claudebot . Our server admin blocked a crapload of IP addresses to mitigate it. We now don't allow AI bots to crawl, nor allow basically any AI generated posts. See - https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=159006
Yours is an interesting solution, I'll let him know about it. We had something like 600 bot connections at one stage which slowed the forum to a crawl.
Good news is AWS has been quite responsive in helping to limit such occurrences after contacting them.
