Done and done. I fixed "Kick Free".
I investigated the hihat splash samples, and found that they were recorded that way. I don't know why they turned out so quiet, but I agree with your assessment so I increased the volume by 8dB gain.

Sounds much better!
Thanks for the feedback. I already put a lot of work into testing and adjusting the volume of the other cymbal samples, but I don't really use the splash sound with my play style, so I missed it.

Curiously, the splash hat from the Virtuosity Drums Jazz Kit sfz sounds too quiet too. Maybe the same sound source? So I upped that one by 8dB too.
Edit: scratch that. Doesn't go well with the velocity response.
Maybe hi hat splashes are naturally quieter than hitting it with the sticks?

That's what I half suspected. But I'm not a drummer so have no idea really. Anyway, thanks for the kit!
Should I go ahead and add the idf to the project repo now?
Or perhaps you'd like to keep it in your project instead of including it in MusE,
so that there is no chance of our file version and yours becoming out of sync over time?
How much trouble is it for people to use the file if it's bundled in the project?

Code: Select all
cp instrument.idf ~/.config/MusE/MusE/instruments/instrument.idf
I think it may be wiser to keep it in his project for now.
The IDF file, all by itself in MusE, may not be of much use without the rest of his project.
I can add it if he wishes, though. No problem. Just say so and I'll add it.
Cheers.
Tim.

That makes sense, because this drum kit is just my pet project. It also gives me the ability to make adjustments to the key map and keep the file in sync.
