Instrument definition for Tchimera Drumkit

Post by Impostor »

Here's another idf for you, for the sfz drumkit made by Michael Willis:

https://github.com/michaelwillis/tchimera-drum-kit

In fact, just do a git pull to get everything at once:

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/michaelwillis/tchimera-drum-kit.git

Nice! I'll add it to the project later today. I haven't used MusE much, is it common knowledge how to load the idf, or should I add some instructions in the readme.md file?

I don't think instructions need to be included.

If the file (without .txt at the end: I just have to add that to be able to upload it here) is dropped in MusE's instruments folder ~/.config/MusE/MusE/instruments then it should become selectable in any midi track's mixer strip. In the midi drum track editor you'll then get a list of instruments for easy editing.

Oops. Again a mistake. First Kick Damp should be named Kick Free. Let me fix that!

I'm considering giving this kit a different name, since there's already the DrumGizmo Tchackpoum kit, which doesn't use all of the same samples, so there's a different sound to this one. The best thing I can think of so far is "Tchimera Kit" - A combination of the prefix "Tch" and chimera, because it's a combination of pieces from different kits found on tchackpoum.fr.

You can fork my idf, no problem :)

Thanks for your help @Impostor. You are awesome.
I will try to add it later.

I've been delayed by an emergency. Things may be slow for a bit :(

Best of luck with your emergency. I'll put a few finishing touches on this project and then the IDF will be ready whenever you can get to it.

Shall I delete the idf from the OP?

Thanks for your support.

Wondering if we should rename the file, as suggested?
Think of a name and I'll add it to the MusE project.

Not yet please, I'm occupied for a bit. Hopefully I can get to this tonight or tomorrow.

Done: Tchimera-Drum-Kit.idf.

I've updated the OP.

By the way, are the hihat splashes purposely so quiet?

Oops, you have used the old idf: The instrument name under pitch 0 should be Kick Free instead of Kick Damp!

That's good feedback, I'll see to increasing the gain on the hihat splash.
