De-clicker for Linux?

Post by thebutant »

Does anyone know of a de-clicker tool that works in Linux?
FLOSS or proprietary, just anything that runs and works under Linux?

A de-clicker is a tool for removing mouth noises in vocals. It's related to a noise remover, but takes just those specific clicky mouth sounds.

When sound designing documentaries and such, I get this request all the time: "If you could just remove some mouth noises on her voice, there's a really simple tool in Adobe Audition" (or whatever software I don't run on my Linux machine).

So I've really tried to find something, and there is actually one for Audacity which works well: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/update ... eech/34283

However, it's a .ny plugin, meaning it's in Nyquist format, meaning it only works in Audacity (as far as I know), meaning it's a lot of work to export every vocal track, run de-clicker in Audacity, re-import them into a project.

So does anyone know of a lv2, vst, vst3 plugin that can do this in other hosts as well?
Or a way to load a .ny plugin in other hosts?

To my knowledge by far the best tool for removing mouth lips and jaw noises for native Linux comes included in Reaper for Linux: noise reduction by spectral editing. On youtube you can find videos from Kenny Gioia.

Additionally you can throw a look at "noise-repellent", "gtk-wave-cleaner" and the stand alone vst-plugin suite "reaplugs" from Reaper website (reafir).

Great tips!
Thank you so much. :D

Isn't there even a way to load Reaper plugins in other DAWs? A wrapper of some kind?
EDIT: Which of course is just what you wrote: The reaplugs.
I have Reaper, and have used it to some extent, but I work mainly in Mixbus 32C.

I don't know, maybe these reaplugs come in handy, especially ReaFIR?

Unfortunately it's still not quite what I'm looking for.

I use noise removers like noise-repellent all the time, and they're great for removing background noise. Static noise. As ReaFIR also seems to handle well.
But mouth sounds aren't static. I'm not able to get them removed by an ordinary noise remover, as they aren't there when the voice is silent. They're just certain parts of the vocals that are not wanted.

The Audacity one is actually a lot better than I expected, so maybe I'll just export every troubled voice track, run them through the Audacity de-clicker and reimport them.

Man, I'd love a proper de-clicker plugin for Linux!

Yes, the other alternatives I mentioned are useful for removing static noise.
But for mouth smacks and jaw clicking noise go for "spectral editing".
