Musio/Cinesamples for Linux?

Post by Kitosch »

Hi, over at VI-Control a developer basically said they'd consider doing a dedicated Linux version of Musio if we just made enough noise.

Nothing official, but it's something that we've been thinking about on and off. Obviously it's a big time investement to maintain testing and support for a whole nother operating system, but if enough people are vocal about Linux it won't go unnoticed!

So, if you'd like to see that happen it's probably a good idea to let them know there in the thread or via email or whatever.

I sent them a message from the plugin itself saying that I'm interested in a Linux version. It includes the logs which show that the download of the instruments fails. We'll see what happens.

Well, they just need to get more requests from Linux users. To my knowledge they are the first of the major players in the cinematic virtual instruments industry that openly stated they have been discussing developing a Linux version of their product. But they won't ever do that for three users expressing their interest. And why should they?

This thread has 244 views and (maybe) generated exactly one message over at the VI-Control forum (which may or may not have been prompted by this thread here, actually). Maybe everyone else emailed them directly instead... ;-)

I would like commercial instruments.

However, I wonder about the tech. Are they not dependent on the whole Kontakt system?

Musio is Cinesample's new player/downloader. It's unrelated to Kontakt, but still proprietary.

Well, I just sent them an email about this.
I'm realistic about the impact of an email but one can always hope :-)

I got a pretty positive response from them yesterday, saying that they would pass my message on to the development team. It's unclear what that means exactly, but at least they're relatively positive about it.

Meanwhile, has anyone been using Musio through WINE?
