I could never get a tone I really liked with Guitarix, although I am sure it was my fault, and not the software. But I really like tamgamp! For me, the JCM800 sounded great "out of the box". It was a bit noisy, but it was my go-to plugin for practicing and recording for a while. (These days I use NAM a lot...}

I don't think it gets enough credit here...
