Hi from Melbourne, Australia!
I went 100% Linux 3 years ago: Ubuntu Studio, Rode Pod Mic, Focusrite 2i2 and Reaper for my DAW. I narrate books as a LibriVox volunteer.
Right now I am undertaking a certificate course in audio engineering. I haven't made any music since I left Windows 7. I used to use FL Studio; I have got it to run 95% under WINE. My old arturia minilab keyboard has never worked in Linux, sadly. I would like to make music again; I'm just not sure how.
Linux is a beautiful set up; I can switch soundcards in one click. I get a quiet environment free of AV or other processes.
As a LibriVox volunteer, all LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. That means that you can do anything legal with them! You can use them in your songs! We are always delighted when someone does! Song writers often take some of our public domain poetry readings and use them for atmosphere. If you go to the Internet Archive we are listed as the LibriVox link.
