With the buttons we have:

  • different outline
  • different colour
  • bold and regular font weights
  • different font colours
  • upright and italic/slanted fonts

I think italic/slanted is too much (used on the Stereo button). Would look upright better.

Bold+Italic is used as a non-colour identification that the button/checkbox/menu is learnable (along with blue text). I can't think of another way of doing this. I did consider making the Stereo button a check box, but that would make the main window look very odd. Having said that, it's debatable whether there is any benefit in it being learnable anyway

Notice that now you can instantly see that the System Effects On button is learnable as well as the Portamento check box.

Generally, there should be only one way to mark a feature as on: either as with the Stereo button or with a check box.
My first idea was that I'd prefer a button that looks like "pressed" to mark that it's on. But that's mostly a 3D effect that's not always apparent enough.

So a button with a LED that's couloured when the button is pressed was my second idea. And I know where I have that from: Rui's Qtractor.

These have the latest release version, but that doesn't have what's in the recent builds. i.e. the theme controls. I'm working as fast as I can to get everything in place for a new release, but there is still a lot to do - documentation for a start :(
