Well, I dug out the Digitech Jimi Hendrix Experience pedal to see how close I am getting with some of my sounds, and to see if they could also be duplicated with a couple or other fuzz pedals that I have in my pedal collection, the Behringer SF-300 SuperFuzz (Super Fuzz clone) and the Ibanez FZ5 60's Fuzz (Big Muff Pi Clone). I was successful in getting both the Fuzz Face tone and the Octavia pedal in the first mode setting of the Digitech JHE pedal which is for Purple Haze, Fuzz Face for the song, and the Octavia for the solo. The SF-300 SuperFuzz has 3 modes, the first two are fuzz, so I was able to get both the Fuzz Face and the Octavia settings to work, you just need to select either mode 1 or 2 for what sound you want. With the Ibanez FZ5, I was able to replicate the Octavia sound, but that pedal doesn't have any modes, it is what it is. So that work led me to duplicate all six fuzz tones of the Digitech JHE pedal with in Guitarix, with 3 fuzzes (Fuzz Face, Fuzz Face Mayer, and GxFuzzFaceJH2(LV2)) for the Fuzz Face modes, and 3 fuzzes for the 3 different Octavia solo sounds(Fuzz Face Fuller, GxVintageFuzzMaster (LV2), and GxSuperFuzz(LV2)). I just had to adjust the settings a little to get them to match. I just did this by ear, no waveforms, eq's levels, or IR's. Close enough is good enough for me tbh.

Very true! A false assumption exists that hardware has no variables, that it's all static,
and thus can be reproduced. When in reality, even tour performances were unique.
Weather, wear-and-tear, and fatigue add up on long tours.

As for the gear itself, componant lists change, the componants themselves change,
the manufacturing process and quality changes, even the various manufacturers raw materials must be secured
from dwindling supplies, and processed into useable and reliable, but not static states.

Congrats on recreating sounds considered classic and historic!
Cheers

I found another Ocativia/o alternative. The WaveSharper(WaveShaper?) distortion does a great range of fuzz sounds, including the Ocatvia/o. The settings for the Ocativia/o sounds with the WaveSharper distortion plugin:

Gain: 10
Drive: 74
Hi Pass: 461.1
Lo pass: 13296
Wet/Dry: 100

So I think I have got the Digitech JHE Pedal copied in Guitarix pretty well. Here is a screenshot of my set up:
Image

LADSPA Gate (Noise Gate)
GxPlexi (Marshall Plexi)
Graphic EQ

12ax7 preamp tubes on amp

GxFuzzFaceJH2 (LV2) (Dunlop Fuzz Face Jimi Hendrix Edition)
WaveSharper (Does a good copy of the Ocatvia/o)
Vibe (UniVibe)
Wah (Set to Vox 847, can also copy the Ocatavia/o when used in one position with the Fuzz Face)
Digi Delay (Set to Tape 1/8 note, 120 BPM, Gain turned all the way up)
Plate Reverb (Dry/Wet set to 0.40)

This is the best version yet, I think this will be my last post other than replies on this topic.

PS;
i was having an issue with getting the sound to not be so bright with the gain turned up (I kept getting a bright sound the more gain I added, not sure why), and I solved this by using the Graphic EQ set on the Drop500 setting, as well as adding the Tonestack set on M-Lead-Style, the Convolver set on Marshall 2203, and Amp Impulse set on JTM-45 style, with the bass increased and the treble reduced in all of them. i tweak all of this every day because things sound just a little different from day to day. Also I am using Purple Haze as my baseline song to match the tone with.

i have been playing around with some IRs, the Marshall 1960a sm57 is a good sound. I have found that the Plate Reverb plugin is lowering the volume and making the tone a little brighter, you might have to adjust the Plate Reverb settings. With just the Fuzz Faze, Vibe, and Wah, you can get pretty close, to almost the exact Digitech JHE pedal sound with just those plugins. I just like to have the extra reverb and IRs.

I finally figured out where the brightness was coming from, the GxPlexi plugin and the Drive knob on the amp. I removed the GxPlexi plugin, and turned down the Drive, and got the sound I wanted that matched the Digitech JHE pedal

Hi

Guitarix founder and maintainer here.

I've started this project back in 2008, at this time, computers wasn't as powerful then this day's, hence we chose a tube simulation which didn't overrun those old CPU's.
This day's, guitarix is widely spread, and changing the model will destroy the workflow of those who use it for long time.
Hence we are more in a maintainer mode with guitarix then doing actual development on it.
Still, that doesn't mean that the project is dead, but changes will only be picked wisely.

However, this day's, we've the LV2 plugin format on Linux and I focused more on doing some amp simulations as plugins then changing the model used in guitarix itself. As you noticed, you could easily bypass the guitarix amp and replace it with a Amp plugin load into the rack.

Here are some of my latest amp sims.

On the road again.

So I went to a plain pre-amp section of the power amp, so no more 12ax7 setting, and the GxPlexi sounds awesome, so do the IR's and the Amp and Cabinet Modeling. It got rid of most of the hissing noise I was getting, like the kind you get from a high gain amp when the gain is turned up.

AWESOME JOB Brummer/tramp!

UPDATE:

What puts the icing on the cake is getting a Marshall 1960A IR, preferably with Celection G12M "Greenbacks":

Quick update:

I finally took my time to use Carla, and I got the Digitech JHE pedal loaded in the MelEQ plugin that Brummer recommended (and created, btw). Turns out I was right on the money with my settings in Guitarix, which also gives me a ton of faith in Brummers program Guitarix. I also scored a used Digitech RP360XP, and that has all the sounds of the Digitech JHE pedal, so I am pretty much done here finally. There is a program to interface with the RP360 written in Python here:
https://github.com/tschartz/pyrp360

I did have to install pyserial with pip and use sudo along with python3 instead of python command to get it running on my system.

Take care everyone, it has been real, see you around the forum!

edit:
PS - I got NAM running on carla with the Ceritone King Kong 60's setting running with this, and it sounds amazing! Took a little work, that's all.
