Sequencer for playing live

Post by TygerTung »

Is there a kind of simple sequencer for which I can use when playing out live? I have a Zoom RT-323 drum machine and a Behringer TD-3 bass line synthesiser, but it would be very handy to be able to sequence my Casio HT-3000 whilst playing it live.

Ideally I would have it playing perhaps four bar phrases on a loop. So I would have it running, would play a sequence of notes for four bars, the midi information would go into the sequencer, it would record it and quantise it, and then play it back through the Casio. I guess I would use two midi interfaces so I could have everything synced up. One would be used for the Casio and the other would provide the time signal from the drum machine.

I would have a button to delete the sequence once I had finished with it.

Is there anything this in software I could use? I don't have enough money for a hardware sequencer at this stage.

Although it isn't a sequencer or looper per se, I wrote a free program that is designed to provide musical accompaniment to a soloist in a live setting. It's called BackupBand, and in a nutshell, it turns your computer into an auto-arranger such as a Korg PA, Roland BK, or Yamaha PSR.

You may want to investigate whether its features would be useful to you. The web address is in my signature below.

I don't see Giada listed. That would be MY personal recommendation. :)

I've installed Giada, but I can't convince it to record anything.
