I've found that:
https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopi ... 8441563450

After all the tunings I realize xruns occur mainly in Bitwig (but not only). This topic describes the same issue than mine. I can reduce amount of xruns by checking "server synchronous mode in Jackd (Cadence). This option is not really documented. The peaks are still present, but there are less or no more xruns.
Again, when I unplug PSU, no more peaks.

Hey,
first I want to make sure that you understand that I am not making fun of you nor I am trying to attack you in anways.
But I have bad news for you.
First I must say its very irritating for me that some one is quoting himself.
Secondly I can not understand that some one who is using Linux since several years as a pro audio/pro music is not understanding the principles of audio engineering.
to make it short:
if you do not have Xruns but still experiencing audible clicks and pops from time to time it should be clear that you have some kind of digital clipping.
Make sure that you understand the principles of digital audio - professionals should be professional.
make love, not war.
peace

Wrong. I had also crackles and clicking sometimes without showing any xruns. Definetly no distortion.

Just to get a feeling how bad it is on your machine. Can you make a test in Bitwig with DIVA (demo also works) with my Bitwig file?

I remember having little clicks and crackles on optical connections between different physical devices. Switching to sync them via Wordclock solved it. Maybe that could be a direction to find the problem.

Fiddling with sequencers does not evolve into music necessarily and Mac users have smelly feet and guzzle little children.

Thank you erkönig and lilith for reactivating this thread! I waked up this night thinking about that, since in one week I have to start to work again and I realize it is not solved...

on these setups I didn't work with sync devices, only one RME or simple DACs.

Do you get these spikes also with stock Bitwig Synths?
At what frequency is your CPU running? Do you have turbo boost enabled?
Does it make a difference if you active the Multiprocessor option in Diva?
Are you using threadirqs and the rtirqs script? I

I maybe found the cause, but not totally sure, I keep trying for some days and turn back here.

In the meanwhile:
It is now quite sure Bitwig is the only software that generates these xruns. It has not always been so: at the beginning I had also troubles with Ardour. These are the two main softs I use at the moment. In Ardour I especially have problems with AVA plugins (from Harrison).
It seems that Ardour is very stable now, probably due to the many tweaks I made since I'm trying to solve the problem. This answer to lilith at the same time:
-as a summary, I can ensure that every tab in realtimeconfigquickscan is checked.
https://github.com/raboof/realtimeconfigquickscan
-hyperthreading is deactivated
-rtirq installed, audio group configured, etc...

Is rtirq also configured.? You have to set your sound card in the control file.

https://github.com/rncbc/rtirq

The config file is typically /etc/rtirq.conf or in my case /etc/default/rtirq
My relevant setting is: RTIRQ_NAME_LIST="snd usb i8042"

with "rtirq status" there shoul be some result like this, depending on your sound card:
PID CLS RTPRIO NI PRI %CPU STAT COMMAND
1767 FF 50 - 90 0.0 S irq/66-snd_hda_intel:card0

i am not shure if the 3rd value RTPRIO should be on 90 too.

Since I use a USB interface when recording at low latencies and do not have a firewire device, mine looks like this:

RTIRQ_NAME_LIST="usb snd"

I have a Behringer USB interface and I set it like described here

viewtopic.php?p=126771&hilit=RTIRQ_NAME_LIST#p126771

What does USB and SND mean exactly? Does it only set the priority of the sound card (snd) connect on USB higher?
