usb audio interface detected by QjackCtl ALSA tab but not by Audio tab

Post by Studiohead »

I installed a low latency kernel on a laptop running Mint and I’m trying to configure it for Jack audio.

The problem is that Jack doesn’t recognize the audio interface.

In QjackCtl the ALSA tab recognizes the interface but it’s not present in the Audio tab

In qjackctl/setup I selected the interface in the input and output and I set the channel to 1 which is the channel identified by Alsa Mixer F6.

The command
aplay -l

shows that the kernel recognises the audio interface.

The PC is an old Toshiba Tecra 15.4”

The OS is: Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon 64-bit

I installed this kernel from synaptic: -
package
linux-buildinfo-5.11.0-22-lowlat
latest version
5.11.0-22.2320.04.
Description
Linux kernel buildinfo for version 5.11.0 on 64 bit x86 S

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Maybe this discussion running from 2007 to 2021 could help?

If your setup is the same as mine, your interface will just appear as "System" in the Audio tab. You won't get a separate, named entry for the interface. However, you have to first set Jack to use your interface as the sound card, rather than the default, which will be your computer's sound card.

So if I'm understanding the situation correctly, you should get your desired result if you...

-stop Jack if it's still running, then go back into QjackCtl Setup and
-in the Advanced tab, change the input, output, and channels back to "default"
-in the Parameters tab, select your interface from the Interface dropdown menu (right now, it's probably set to "default")
-save/apply your changes and restart Jack

Now your interface will be System in the Audio tab. Basically, System will be whatever you have selected as Interface in the QjackCtl setup. If you have "default" selected, then your computer's sound card will be the system.

Also note that, if you later start Jack without your interface plugged in, you will get an error. Then you have to either plug in your interface and use that, or change Interface back to "default" to use the computer's sound card.

Hope that helps and my explanation makes sense. :)

Thanks to one and all.

I installed a new operating system on the pc without resolving this issue so I can't give any more updates.
