People keep pestering me for a shimmer reverb in the Dragonfly plugins, but I haven't given in to the demands.

From a brief glance at the search results page, it looks like a octave pitch shifter in front of a really long-tail reverb gets you at least part way there.

It makes such a beautiful effect on a clean guitar track and on a piano it could be quite haunting.
Being only a guitar player I can get a pedal for that but why I like it or would love to have it is that once you're producing something you can hear where shimmer would work and that's why I asked the question because I'm mixing a song with a piano in it.
There's a quiet section that's quite haunting with the piano but something is missing and I was going to add a synth ambience strings behind it but then I thought a shimmery verb would even do better

Shiroverb has shimmer. It's in the kx.studio plugins. MOD Devices uses it also.

Thanks guys. Gxplugins has one which I'm using but I would have liked to have another plug-in that can do the same thing just to see which one worked better for the application

I got the Valhalla Supermassive working nicely with LinVST so probably the Valhalla Shimmer mentioned in that article would work too. Shimmer is 50 bucks whereas Supermassive is free. 8) Amazing outer space reverbs, delays, pitch shifts, and a variety of interesting default presets.
I had to install the provided .exe file with Wine, find the .dll, move it to my vst folder and convert it with linvstconvert.

Yes, it does! I used shiroverb for the shimmer and modulay on this example: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1s29crn ... sp=sharing sounds great!

I use Valhalla Shimmer in Wine with FL Studio and it works great. I'd love to see a Linux native plugin that can do the same thing though. Shimmer is very good at what it does..

In case you feel like running audio through VCV Rack, it has Clouds and a few other modules which can do interesting pitched and modulated reverb effects.

In an effect bus: Calf vintage delay -> Rubberband (1 octave up) -> Calf EQ (cut bass) -> Dragonfly hall reverb

The initial Calf vintage delay could probably be replaced by Dragonfly's Predelay.

Thanks everyone for the helpful inputs.
@bluebell I'll give this a shot as your example is basically what I was looking for.
Shiroverb works well too

I've never used an actual shimmer reverb, so I'm not exactly sure what it's actually *supposed* to sound like, but after reading this thread I was experimenting a little with pitch shifting into a big reverb (I used Reaper's stock pitch plugin and TAL Reverb 4 to begin with), and it's definitely a nice effect.

How do people usually use shimmer reverb? Single instrument, groups, or whole mix? Tracks I've heard that seem to use it have maybe a synth patch in the background with lots of shimmer and shorter reverbs on other instruments. Although one album I have, The beautiful "Birds of Passage - The Death of Our Invention" sounds like it is on almost everything.
I must check out shiroverb and TAL Reverb 4.
