[SOLVED] Sound from sf2-players are modulated

Post by oscillator »

Hi,

I have tried this both with the MESS Fluidsynth and Calf Fluidsynth.

My problem:

I load a piano sf2. With some of them, there seems to be some modulation applied, so they sound is kind of "tremolized", or there is a vibrato on them.

I have not activated "Send instrument initialization sequence", but tried them from the menu. No difference.

I have looked in my live recorded MIDI, and there are no controllers there, only note data.

Any suggestions on how to handle this? Or what is the cause? Problem with the sf2's?

Is it possible that after you record-arm the track to begin accepting keyboard input, but before you hit record,
the modulation wheel on your keyboard changes?
That would apply some modulation but not record it.

My mod wheel can get dirty sometimes, so I usually ensure to operate it a few times and return it to zero position before recording.

I don't think so, didn't touch it. But when I play the MIDI, the keyboard is not even connected.

The strange thing is that this affects only some SF2 sounds, not all. And on other tracks, nothing is affected. MusE doesn't save mod wheel state somewhere on the track?

Some more findings @Tim E. Real:

If I export my MIDI playing and import it, the error is still there.

If I start a new project and import the MIDI export into the new proj, the error disappears.

It seems some kind of modulation state is saved somewhere in the MusE file?

I've attached the original MusE project file.

According to the picture, the modulation 'static' value is 104.
Also the sustain 'static' value is 127.

Please reset them to zero by adjusting their respective controls at the left of each controller graph.

These 'static' values are values that are just 'current' and not part of any graph, although they do change if there is a graph 'playing'.
They can be adjusted on their own as 'static' values without a graph.

Tip: If you plan on drawing graphs, it is advisable to store a desired value at the beginning of each graph so that when the song rewinds,
it always starts with that value, not the last one that was set before rewinding.

A bunch of thanks, @Tim E. Real!!!

(I have not done any graphs in this song, must be something I recorded.)

But now I know how to fix it!

I am very grateful for this quick help! :)
