[ANN] Qtractor 0.9.18 - A Fall'20 Release

Post by rncbc »

Hi everyone,...
Change-log:
- When under NSM, all top-level windows, main, mixer and connections, will always start hidden.
- Plugin editors (GUIs) that are currently open on a track are now brought up as top-level windows immediately when a track is made current or highlighted (and Track / Auto Monitor is in effect).
- MIDI clip editor mouse hovering effect extended to whole current note line on main view (piano-roll eye-candy++); also, the white keys on MIDI clip editor's virtual piano keyboard, are now fully highlighted.
- Plugin search paths (View > Options... > Plugins > Paths) now lists all the default and actual existing paths, instead of a blank list.
- Undimmed octave divider lines on the piano-roll.
- Fixed potential crash on changing audio output buses channel count.
- Note names display (inside note rectangles) are now an option on the MIDI clip editor (aka. piano-roll; menu View > Note Names).

Thanks!

Compiled fine. Though, one question:

Is it still possible to use my templates created with 0.9.5?

Compiled fine on Debian Buster. I still have hardly any idea what I'm doing being a noob to MIDI stuff but managed to get a quirky few bars together.
Thanks for your great work, Rui! 8)

yes.

all old session and template files are all possible to run in any version of the program.
however, newer saved ones may lack or simply get ignored on some features, when loaded to older versions.

Thanks!

I would like to make three suggestions:

1. Option to keep windows like the editor windows on top of the main window

2. Ability to set tempos to e.g. 120.xx where xx would be from 00 to 99
- I often have problems to synchronize Qtractor with some sounds in Yoshimi/ZynAddSubFx. E.g. 118.7 is too slow and 118.8 is too fast.

3. Option to have base name (file name) only showing in the Status line (the line on the bottom of the windows)
- by paths being too long there's an issue with the editor windows when using two monitors; can't resize such window to fit into the size of one screen and therefor the window flickers trying to resize automatically to fit into one screen and then resizes to the length of path and file name in the status line on the bottom. When I'm moving such window to the right screen it sequentially jumps back to the left window.

Qtractor really is a great Sequencer. It's time to set it up to version 1.0!

As far as I know this would need myself to register to github?

I was once registered to github to join a development team, as I have some special developments done.
Github was much too complicated. I wasn't even able to do a pull request to the wanted branch.
Each time I tried, I ended up with the wrong branch.
I think I'll try to register to https://www.rncbc.org. Hopefully it's not that complicated as github.

maybe the said dev-team wasn't that special at all, or just kicked you out in the mist.. I really don't know and quite frankly it's not my call anyway.
but again, please, use it, whether github or else, to place a ticket: a forum, any forum, is only a place for talk, yes, talk and nothing but just that ;)
cheers

No, I don't think so. Some of the team tried to help me to make that pull request and offered a GUI program to make it more easy.
However, even that GUI program wasn't of any help to me. Apart from that I know lots of others who find github being much too complicated.
I simply don't understand why it wasn't possible to upload the script I made changes in and then the team would grab the script, doing a file diff/compare and decide to apply the changes or not. This would be really easy to do.

Successfully registered to https://www.rncbc.org.
Now I need to find out how to place a ticket.

Edit:

Can't find any option to "place a ticket".
How would I do this?
Is it just to open a topic in the forums?

no tickets on (my) forum, didn't i just said that?
for the record, only sf.net tickets+merge requests and/or github.com issues+pull requests are on watch.
pardon me if it wasn't clear enough
thanks anyway
cheers
