Zynspiration
Here is another song by one of my kids. He dug through the old multi-window ZynAddsubFX interface and taught himself how to program sounds by ear. Every sound you hear in this song, including the percussion, was programmed from scratch this way. He also wrote the music, and his brother added the dominant melody that comes in at about the halfway point. We also included the LMMS project file for download, if you want to play with the file yourself.
Here it is: https://sanderson.band/2020/08/04/zynspiration/
Enjoy!

Re: Zynspiration
That is very good work, especially starting from scratch like that. The original layout of Zyn was extremely well thought out, and positively invites experimentation without forcing it on you. For my synth of choice we kept that and expanded on it.
The Yoshimi guy {apparently now an 'elderly'}

Re: Zynspiration
Yeah, I'm really impressed with his sound engineering. He is a bit of a savant when it comes to music and sound. I get lost in all of those windows and knobs, but he just loves it. He was really excited when I showed him Yoshimi, and he happily dug in to all of its controls when we used it in a recent project. I think he will definitely prefer Yoshimi to the new versions of Zyn with the 1-window interface. But for now he does most of his work in LMMS, and I don't think they have any plans to add Yoshimi as a built-in synth there.
Thanks for your thoughts! I will definitely pass them on.

Re: Zynspiration
It's a good exploration of some sounds. The organ sound is nice.
He he, not to be rude, it's only for sharing purposes, here's one I did 3 years ago using Zyn (the 3.x series). All Zyn, except for the drums. All stock patches included with Zyn.

Maybe your son could do a track or two using the free u-he synths ?
Cheers.

Re: Zynspiration
I've never checked out the U-He synths, but maybe I should. I also want to see what he can make with Amsynth.
Your ZynJam is cool. Lots of good presets in Zyn.

Two free u-he synths are readily available from the u-he web site, Podolski and Triple Cheese.

Note that Triple Cheese is a oscillator-free synth as it only uses comb filters. Here's one I did with TC (plus drums) :

Re: Zynspiration
I like this also, especially the beginning with the organ sound, which reminds me on Anna von Hausswolff.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbP--RsNj70
Mixwise I think there iis some room for improvement. Generally it sounds a bit muddy and dense on my setup. Cutting low frequencies for all instruments except of bass and kick might help here. Some HiHats could make it more open as there is not much going on in the higher frequency spectrum.
The guitar sounds a bit sterile and sharp.

Cool, the beginning felt like something that wouldn't be out of place in a Mass Effect game

Re: Zynspiration
Late again...
This is great! I don't know a LFO from a UFO so when I read things like "I created the drum sounds with white noise filters.." my mind is already blown..
I actually love the depth of his kick drum, it has a nice warm analog quality that often is missing in EDM stuff, a strong melody, great bass and a real sense of dimension listening to this, Super Duper!

Your son is really talented and inspiring! The work on the arpeggios and above all on the drum synthesis is superb. I think he could have a great career in instrumental electronic music!

Re: Zynspiration
Hey, cool. Drums might profit from variation, synth sounds are definitely cool. Afaik, at least the kxstudio version of LMMS has Carla as an instrument, Carla is a pretty universal plugin host, in this way, you can get external instruments into LMMS, like a different version of Zyn/Yoshimi, Helm, Amsynth ,,, and another thing I remember, the LMMS manual is a nice read, not only is it breaking down the workflow of LMMS, but it has some good thoughts on music making itself
some of my stuff is ending up here https://alooshu.byethost17.com and here https://clyp.it/user/i4p5dng1 , and you can love me at https://liberapay.com/aloo_shu

Re: Zynspiration
Let me say Wow! Sweet taste sounds! Arp so nicely, masterpiece!
This powerful work for PR to ZynAddSubFX for share in masses. It really best open source synth. But design of interface need more better (commertiacally ver no discass). Need to throw a call to linuxfan artists

A new interface already exists, it's called zyn-fusion.psyocean wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 5:17 pm Let me say Wow! Sweet taste sounds! Arp so nicely, masterpiece!

It just happens that the version shipped with LMMS uses the old interface!

Re: Zynspiration
I agree, new interface so cool, but it no open source. Price for Zyn with beauty face = $45+ pay https://zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.io/
May be it normal for best legendary synt make few support to programmers... But I decide for self only work on hardware sound module (used old Roland XV-5080 with exp+), one physical interface on all life
