Re: how to make a video like this
Rendering the movie as we type.
Very happy I am not using the amd stock cooler, but an Hyper 212 black edition coolermaster.
Temps between 55 and 59 C.
But pc is making noise lol , I am finally putting my ryzen 5 cpu to work.
Wondering how long it will take to render when its finished. Might have to look at turning down some setting to speed up the rendering.
I am not even rendering the entire song, but 1500 frames for now, no idea how long that will be in minutes.

You're on a roll now !
here's some butter..

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... +animation
Oh, and to make matters worse, there is a 'speaker object' available in there for use, too..

Re: how to make a video like this
You don't have to make the pit any deeper. But Now I understand were that speaker is for.
For now watching render animation tutorials.
Then probably makes some low res vid, until I fully understand rendering in Blender.
It might be better to add the wave file from LMMS to blender instead of the mp3 version I am using now.
I could render the animation in cycles
This totally reminds me of rendering in 3D studio, on a machine with 2 400 mhz intel cpu.
Turn on rendering, and go do something else. ( and prey pc will not crash )
And that was only rendering still images.

Re: how to make a video like this
Need to do more investigating, but turned off screen space reflections in render settings.
(How the light bounces.)
This already made a noticeable different when rendering only one frame.
I am starting to serious wonder about how long the final render is gonna take. It worries me.
My music track is around 4-5 minutes.
It might also not be a good idea to render at my screen resolution.
Any thoughts on this ?

Have a look @ this vid...

then have a glance thru the comments section. Should be a couple things in there to help optimize and get your render times down.

Re: how to make a video like this
Wondering if I should just make a straight corridor, or kinda start over with making bends in the corridor.
This is what I have now, but the pipes and such are not going around the corners.
Corridor from the outside. ( Add wings and we have a space ship )
https://i.imgur.com/Eug2rLG.png
If I do a straight corridor, with maybe changing the colour of the red lights for variation, I will be done rather soon.
If I stick to my plan of bends, it will be allot of work still.
For those interested how I made those bends. Go to edit mode select the edges of the hull, then do spin, then fill ( F) then extrude, then spin again.
Slowly starting to understand blender better. But I need to find a way to select more things at ones, so that the pipes and all also go around the bends.
Might have to send somebody my blend file, so they can comment on my workflow, and how I should do this in blender.
I still feel I am not doing this the blender way, but the cad 3D way, and that is causing allot of problems.

Re: how to make a video like this
I am totally happy
Got a great answer from stack exhange, that kinda proofs there is a better Blender way to do this, then how I was doing it.
https://blender.stackexchange.com/quest ... 986#184986
Array along a path
I had read about it ( array along a path) and was wondering, but could not find a tutorial that really fitted my project.
The above answer does.

Re: how to make a video like this
I should point out, when you go to animate, you should hide any and all unnecessary elements that will not be on camera for a given scene. Disable the 'eye' and 'camera' icons in the 'outliner' panel for that.
Just like in Hollywood, this will save you time and resources. In other words, cheat..

Re: how to make a video like this
Did you make that vid ?
and lol
This instantly reminds me of making maps for a game.
One of the things that happens if the map is build well, is that the engine calculates what we can't see, so it won't be drawn.
You answered a question before I asked, I was already wondering about the outside, because of my experience with maps for games.
Would this corridor be for a game, I would delete all outside surfaces I could delete.
Might be worth to try and do this for this model too.
There are overlapping surfaces behind the blue frames.
Edit:
I see the eye but don't see a camera there. Are you using a different blender version ?
Never mind found it, I can do this in the bar above the window.

Yup.
You can find that model/scene and others here: http://www.3drender.com/challenges/ -> Challenge #18: Science Fiction
Did textures, rig, lighting, then animation. Which this could come in handy soon, too if you should want to switch between camera shots during your animation.. Markers - Animation in Blender 2.83 https://youtu.be/cysPgkX1ifw

Re: how to make a video like this
That really looks good
I still have a love / hate relation with blender
Might have to write down, remember a few short cuts.
I am not used to the way most people use blender. Allot of key combinations, and most of the time I have issues finding that stuff in the drop down menus.
Right now figuring out how to draw a path for the array.

Re: how to make a video like this
After reading the manual and watching 5 tutorials, I still did not understand how to draw a path with bezier curves.
The blender manual is getting on my nerves, most of the time it does not answer my questions.
Its like with brezier curves function you can draw curves. no really ?
Nothing about how to draw something with more bezier curves then just one.
Then finally found a tutorial that did help, its somebody making a 3D blender logo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yCyNYA458E
Next problem, I had put off for some time now. Blender telling me my vid card can't do opencl.
For those owning an R570 or R580 this is not true.
With help from the openSUSE forum and allot of googling:
The problem is the opensource AMD drivers and even if you install mesa opencl, it wont work in Blender.
The solution for most distro will be to install the proprietary AMD vid card drivers or install the part providing the opencl support.
For my specific case (openSUSE Tumbleweed) I will have to uninstall mesa opencl and install AMD ROCm.
So I will have the opensource drivers with a closed source part added, as far as I understand this.
Then I can tell blender to use both the CPU and the GPU for rendering, which should bring the render times down.
Starting to serious have doubts about array along a path, but I have been doing allot of work, to have a model that I can use for the array.
Lets see how far I will get tomorrow.
Draw the path, array modifyer, curve modifyer and I should have my corridor again.
The worry is about how blender is gonna merge stuff. Worst case I will have to do it the way I was doing it.
Slowly starting to at least understand some of the moddeling in blender.
Still very tempted to do just a straight corridor and be done with it.
But for now not giving up yet.
