Re: AllMusic and Discogs
i use discogs already like 15 years. For me it's a music database. I've got around 3000vinyls and in that way it's easy to know what i have and don't have.
If i search something i can find it more easy in my collection via categories i made on discogs according to my collection.
I'm planning also to sell some stuff and it's also easy via discogs.

Re: AllMusic and Discogs
I have never bought anything from those sites, but I regularly use discogs because they are very good at keeping track of on which records individual artists appear. Especially in genres where there's a lot of collaboration and adhoc/short-lived groups that's a great way to discover new stuff.

Re: AllMusic and Discogs
No reason really, I never did an in-depth comparison (though a quick test does suggest discogs finds some more hits)

Re: AllMusic and Discogs
Looking back on this thread, I realized everyone talked about using it for managing their music collection. But my initial question was about adding my own data to such databases. All that stands out as of now are:
Do yall add metadata for yall releases? Why or why not?

Re: AllMusic and Discogs
personally, I run my music files through https://musicbrainz.org Picard client, and I use https://github.com/murdos/musicbrainz-u ... er.user.js UserScript in browser to use info from Discogs to help populate MB for releases that don't have an entry

Re: AllMusic and Discogs
If were to release music, I'd probably add to both.
