Happy newbie

Post by Wanderstweek »

Hellaw

Switched from win7, Tracktion to full Linux Mint 64bit.
Tried Tracktion T7 for Linux, but my very old AMD CPU didn't liked it.
Now I'm exploring Audacity and I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised.
I'm a singer / guitarist and now in 40s, a wannabe producer
I record my own songs and learn to use software and hardware along the way.
Luckily I found this forum and hoping to find some useful tips and informations.
Sorry for my bad English, I'm from middle EU.

Well... , see you around :)

Welcome Wanderstweek! Audacity is a good place to start, and I have used it one several recordings over the years. When you get tired of its limitations there are many other options. I eventually graduated on to Ardour, which I am super happy with. Another powerful option is Qtractor, which seems to be preferred by people who use a lot of midi. All in good time, though. For now we're just happy to have you on board and we hope you're ready to learn a lot in the next few weeks and months.

Oh, I'm glad you like it. My most important audience is myself, but I'm always happy to reach new audiences. :)

I have two microphones: a Shure SM57, and an Audio-Technica ATM63HE. I like them both, and use them both, but they are quite different tools. The SM57 is quieter, but has a somewhat better signal to noise ratio. I will often use them both to record acoustic guitar, and then pan them L and R. This gives it a nicer, fuller sound. When I am just strumming a rhythm guitar that will be in the background of a mix I will just use one mic.

Do you have any recordings you can share? Are you already online somewhere?

I have few old win7 recordings, but nothin online for now.
Last week i started working on one song that's gonna be my first Linux Mint project that I'm planning to show you guys when it's finished. No midi, just guitars and vocals.
But till then i think it's gonna be mostly Q&A period
