Do you use extensions and if so which ones?
I find these ~useful (here Gnome extensions, every window manager is welcome!):
cpufreq https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1082/cpufreq/
JackConnect https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/ ... ckconnect/
(Turn Off PulseAudio https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/ ... ulseaudio/
JackVolume https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1135/jackvolume/)

Re: Desktop extensions
There was a time when I needed a master volume control. I used a combination of jack_mixer and jack-plumbing.khz wrote:Do you use extensions and if so which ones?

I didn't know JackVolume.
Now I have a passive monitor controller and don't need a software master volume control anymore. It's put between my audio interface's outputs and the active monitor speakers, thus lowering the noise when switching on the audio interface. The Focusrite Scarletts put out a loud impulse when switched on. The MOTU behaves better.
I have a jack_thru instance running permenantly and connect all outputs to this jack_thru to have a fixed point where I can "tap" the signal.

Re: Desktop extensions
The two - Turn Off PulseAudio, JackVolume - don't work here, I stopped PA manually if necessary, the volume control is also rather useless IMHO.
JackConnect is nice, but I also do it in the application software.

Why do you stop Pulseaudio? It doesn't interfere with jackd if you use jack_sink.khz wrote:The two - Turn Off PulseAudio, JackVolume - don't work here, I stopped PA manually if necessary, the volume control is also rather useless IMHO.

Re: Desktop extensions
Only when I want to get the last bit out of my computer or to protect the environment.
Often I route it with pulseaudio-module-jack over jackd.

Re: Desktop extensions
If you want to use Cadence on Gnome, i suggest you follow my tips here. Very useful in order to sync those environments in tune.
https://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopi ... ips#p87243
PS: As for the extensions above, they aren't very useful.
The "turn off pulseaudio" extension is old and obsolete. And it duplicates a Cadence built-in function.
The "Jack Volume" extension is just a complicated version of Alsa volume control. I am using volumeicon + gnome-alsamixer instead.
"Jack Connect" is again a complicated version of Catia. I agree it looks stylish, but i prefer to assign a key combination to Catia instead.
"Cpufreq" is useful only if you want to preserve battery life. I prefer to set everything to performance, and don't bother again.
So overall although Gnome has so many great extensions, almost none of them are useful for music and audio production specifically, except "Jack Connect" to a point. I personally rely on proper keyboard shortcuts configuration. Although i am not gonna lie. I will highly appreciate (geek out) a good and appropriate Gnome extension for our use cases. Like Cadence jack-settings or Claudia/Ladish for example.
