Qtractor Edit cursor forward and backward by grid?

Post by alex stone »

I've been impressed with the MMC setup in Qtractor, and it's made working with lots of orchestral clips, and recording, a lot easier. I use an Akai MPK88 for input, and it has all the bells and whistles including a full set of transport buttons. I can work at speed building up a project, so all is good in that particular workflow. The backward and forward actions are useful for quickly navigating around the main canvas.

But there are times when i'm inputting notes manually, i.e. fast runs and more complicated note sets, and working by grid in the midi editor is where this happens.

I've searched the keystrokes directory, but I can't find actions for moving the edit cursor forward and backward by grid (dependent on selected snap settings). Do these exist?

If not, can they be added? They're a common workflow set in most Sequencers, and particularly useful in midi editors.

Onwards and Upwards.

no. if about the infamous qtractor "blue-lines" (aka. edit-head/tail) then, sorry to tell, only the mouse is at hand to help: no pc-keyboard or shortcuts are or were ever considered...

yes, it can be added as long it's all perfectly well specified and filed under a nice feature request ticket and up voted accordingly
just saying something "like other sequencers" is I'm afraid not barely enough ;)

Shame about mouse only, but you're not the only dev to just focus on that.

I'll think about how to word a FR, but i have to add Rui, if you can't see the immediate value and common sense in moving the cursor with keystrokes as another workflow option, grid or not, then i'm not sure what i can write, or if i should even bother writing at all.

not that i'm not seeing the value but again we're (I'm) talking about the "edit cursors" (blue-lines) and not the "play-head cursor" (red-line) which is of course movable via the pc-keyboard and even through an assigned midi controller shortcut.
