Carla
While looking at Carla here:
https://kx.studio/Applications:Carla
Carla is available in the KXStudio repositories, Fedora and ArchLinux (all with 'carla' package name).
Pre-compiled binaries are available for Linux, macOS and Windows (version 2.0.0).
When I click download ( linux 64 bit ) I get a tarball though.
Do I need to compile lmms my self or not ? I am a bit confused. ( openSUSE 42.3 )

Re: Carla
I don't get it. So you have lmms installed from the open suse repository and carla from kxstudio? There's a Carla Linux - VST and a standalone Carla version. In lmms you want to load the vsts plugin, which is not possible. Sorry, I wasn't aware of this until now. I always thought lmms supports Linux VSTs too.
@all : please correct me if I'm writing bogus.

Re: Carla
I am using the LMMS appimage version. RC 7 and RC 8.
https://lmms.io/download/#linux
Because openSUSE uses rpm, I can't add the kx repository.
So I downloaded Carla from here, and tried the pre compiled binaries. I can start Carla , carla seem to work fine, but it does not show in LMMS.
https://kx.studio/Downloads ( Linux 64 bit )
Could it be I have to install Carla ? for it to show in LMMS ?
( not that I have a clue on how I should do that )

Re: Carla
As far as I remember LMMS needs to be compiled with carla already installed (there is a compile option for carla in lmms I think).
Actually if you're using the app image then it should already be compiled with that option (I would assume) so perhaps your carla is not in the places that LMMS is expecting to find it.

Re: Carla
Small step forward, but no carla in LMMS yet
I started the appimage file of LMMS from the command line, and this is what I get
Carla appears to be installed on this system at /usr/lib[64]/carla so we'll use it.
/tmp/.mount_lmms-1gPhLmG/AppRun: regel 17: ldconfig: opdracht niet gevonden
Jack does not appear to be installed. That's OK, we'll use a dummy version instead.
Notice: could not set realtime priority.
Cannot load library /tmp/.mount_lmms-1gPhLmG/usr/lib/lmms/libcarlapatchbay.so: (libcarla_native-plugin.so: kan gedeeld objectbestand niet openen: Bestand of map bestaat niet)
Cannot load library /tmp/.mount_lmms-1gPhLmG/usr/lib/lmms/libcarlarack.so: (libcarla_native-plugin.so: kan gedeeld objectbestand niet openen: Bestand of map bestaat niet)
Cannot load library /tmp/.mount_lmms-1gPhLmG/usr/lib/lmms/libcarlabase.so: (libcarla_native-plugin.so: kan gedeeld objectbestand niet openen: Bestand of map bestaat niet)
Then first started Carla and tried again.
That does not make any difference it seems.
I had carla installed from the openSUSE repositories, and removed it ( becausee it was not compiled for vst support) , wonder if some left overs of that install are causing this.
Think I will ask the lmms devs, to make sure its possible what I am tryning to do.
LMMS appimage and Carla pre compiled binaries.
Then the solution might be just copying those files to those folders.

Re: Carla
How about a Carla appimage companion that goes alongside lmms. This is how gmic-qt works with krita as an appimage. That way it is much easier for users to mark both as executable and find the Carla appimage as a plugin in the lmms settings. similar to krita

Re: Carla
Do you have Carla installed or are you using the Carla pre compiled binaries ?rghvdberg wrote:I use the appimage from lmms and pics up carla just fine it seems.
Actually the console output of says something like ; "carla found, we'll use that"
The Carla version from opensuse, although it had no vst support, did show up in lmms.
