NEW CATEGORY:'Newbie' category for absolute beginners (like me)
Other forums have a 'Newbie' section. Why not this one?

That's not a bad idea. Not sure what everyone else thinks about that. Possibly a child board of the welcome category for new users. Thoughts anyone else?

I'm not completely convinced this would be useful, but let's give it a try: created viewforum.php?f=64
If it doesn't take off I'll move the posts elsewhere and remove the subforum again.

Me neither. On many forums you see dissimilarity starting to exist between newbs and "the old wise ones" with disrespectful rooster behaviour around that. In the worst cases the newbs must shut up when the big guys are talking, and the old ones dictate.raboof wrote:I'm not completely convinced this would be useful
I like equality among people.
I as newbie have no problem if this argument will be ignored and will be happy enough if it is kept in mind when shit hits the fan. Just saying. And i understand the benefits of it.

This is pretty common both on forums and 'outside' . I hope we manage to mostly avoid it here.zoco wrote:On many forums you see dissimilarity starting to exist between newbs and "the old wise ones" with disrespectful rooster behaviour around that. I've made it explicit in the description that 'newbie talk' is OK everywhere here, just especially encouraged on that subforum.

We are all beginners in some area and (thank you @)nathan has defined it quite well in his post: Our Mission Statement, Values, and Vision viewtopic.php?p=896#p896.

Common it is. But it is not good for objective advices. Most answers given by those wise man are almost always that the best is the only good. They never go beyond their own vision which is not good for alternatives and creativity.raboof wrote:This is pretty common both on forums and 'outside' . I hope we manage to mostly avoid it here.
Always the same anwers.
Best microphone? Condensor. Or shure SM58. SM 57 for instruments. The rest is shit.
Best gear or instruments? Only the top ranges from the best brands. The rest is shit.
Best plugin? VST. LV2 and LADSPA are shit.
Which OS? Linux sucks.
You got yourself a buy? That can not be good.
You ask about something i do not know or have experience with? Then by definition it must suck.
That short-sightedness of those "wise man" is almost insulting.
