Can you check the availability of presets ? On my side, I can load almost any of them at first time, but after that, a second preset will not load.

To built apparently it needs premake5 which doesn't seem to be available even for v18 but this is just to build it. If you use kxstudio repo on 16 I would expect it to still work.

I can't replicate that, I can change through many presets without any problem. Running on neon here.

Surge is very, very, very, early work :-)
It is known that some hosts can't find the plugin.

It crashes constantly on my system but runs in a vm with the same OS. :?:

Readme on github has recently been updated for compiling on Linux.

Git pull often. Much work is going on atm.

I remember the first time I heard it; in its time it was certainly one of the best synths on the software side. I hope progresses will be made, but the GPL build is already a pleasure for the ears.

Greetings,

Btw, if anyone has sound coming from it maybe they can tell me how ? All I get is a clicking noise when running it in Carla. What am I missing ?

Dave, I just tried it in carla and it was just a case of adding it and connecting a keyboard, no special set up. All works normally for me. Perhaps it's a samplerate problem? Running 44.1 here.

I got it working with the VCV Rack VST Host module. However, when the tempo clock - the sequencer speed - is increased the sound goes to hell. At lower tempi everything sounds great so I guess I'll just use it in slow songs. ;)

Still only clicking noises in Carla. Btw, I tried 44100 Hz and 48000 Hz for engine sample rates in VCV Rack, it didn't seem to make any difference to Surge, so I don't think the failure in Bitwig is due to a sample rate problem.

Surge shows up listed in QTractor (build from latest git pull) but crashes the sequencer on loading.

Best regards,

This problem is gone with the latest build from git sources. It works very well in Rack regardless of tempo.

Still no joy with Carla, QTractor, or Bitwig. Strange.

I am using Debian Stretch with KDE plasma and the git version builds in Linux with close to full functionality.

It's still in testing mode but it's highly testable. 8) There are a few issues, for example with resizing and menus to be fully operational and some elements are not lighting up properly but things are moving forward. I have been following the progression of this synth in Linux since it was first suggested it could be possible. I hadn't been able to build it until last week so this is already great news even though it's still in development and there's much work to be done.

Currently, it runs in Carla, Waveform 9, Tracktion 7, Reaper, Radium and MixBus 5. It does not get recognized in Bitwig or Renoise and crashes Qtractor. Ardour can see it and connect to MIDI in but for some reason can't connect to audio out.

For building it is important to build the VST2 version and use the correct SDK. It has to use the VST2 SDK that is the VST 2 version to work as the VST3 is not functioning in Linux.

Once built it's important to note that on Linux

for user-made presets, the folder is ~/Documents/Surge
and for Surge factory presets, wavetables and preferences, the folder is ~/.local/share/Surge

running the install script will set up the ~/.local/share/Surge folder with contents and creating the first user Store will create the ~/Documents/Surge folder with the first user preset

----------------

EDIT: there have been some changes to the code
running the command

Code: Select all

 ./build-linux.sh --help
will show a few options and switches if the intention is to install local

Disable "Strict I/O" on the track and it will work"
This however needs fixing ofc.

Hello, I built surge yesterday from the git repository (the surge build provided by kxstudio crashes at startup in my case).
I get everything working for few seconds, then when I switch preset the synth stops working, i.e. it doesn't provide audio anymore.
Does anyone have the same problem?
Thanks,

Alberto
