70s Cop Show or 70s Porn?

Post by Jan »

After I listened to some old Toto songs and read an interview with Lenny Castro I wanted to do something with percussion in it. Since I had a little riff I liked from a tape from my old band, I started to enhance it with a distorted Hammond, some congas and a Shaker I had lying around.

A friend said that it sounded like 70s porn music but I like to imagine it would suit a TV series like Life on Mars with cool Cops driving in cool cars, wearing ridiculous clothes.

Tell me what you think.

I hear the Timbals very well, nice production, I tried opening this again but it failed. (Will listen again).
I really think peeps should post their music on MySpace and while I know that goes against the grain it could also be a good way of promoting Linux as a recording format.

That sounds really really good. You could either work in the television or pornography industry easily.

actually this is more "funky" than "rockig" lol

with the bass playing around a little more and the drums more in the foreground/more punch this would make a fine funk-tune ;-)

You are right - it is not very rockig. But it started rockig, so I kept the name.

I am not sure about the drums. On my system they sound okay and sit right in the mix and have a lot of punch, too. But I record and mix on the least suitable equipment for recording, so you're possibly right.

As for the bass: I have a friend who plays a good funk bass, I thought about letting him record some stuff.

Thank you!

But if I had offers from both, I would choose working for TV - the storylines are usually far better. :-)

Is there a good Hammond B3 emulation for Linux?

I know there is one in bristol but it is making clicks and crashing all te time.

There is one called Beatrix http://people.dsv.su.se/~fk/beatrix_download.html but it has no Jack-support and last version from 2004!

I don't know, I used a soundfont. Don't know where I got it from, but it's good enough for me.

Thank you!

I think what you found could be the soundfont I used. I used a little bit of distortion, must have been the amp emulation from the TAP plugins. I'm not exactly sure, but I will post what I used tomorrow.
