The Beach (bonus track)

Post by Rainmak3r »

Hi all,

when I published my latest album, Rainmaker, a few weeks ago, I said there was a hidden track only available to who'd purchase it on Bandcamp. I thought it might be a good idea to foster some sales, even though that wasn't really what I was looking for. A few weeks later, I only sold one copy (to good old @oscillator  ), so I guess we can safely say that strategy didn't really work

Since I think it's a pity for that song to go unheard, I decided to publish it on SoundCloud instead:

https://soundcloud.com/lminiero/the-beach

A bit like Dreams from my previous album, this song came to me in a dream. In there, I was browsing what looked like a new album I had published but that for some reason I couldn't remember, and the video for this song came up, which in my dream was sung by a woman. I remember thinking I liked how the chords progressed, and struggling to remember it (which I'm not sure I 100% did, but it's close enough). The only words I remembered when I woke up are the ones in the first sentence, so that's what I played around for the lyrics.

The guitars were recorded exactly as in Dreams, using two different presets at the same time from Rakarrack (Nostalgia and Angel's Chorus). Strings, instead, are entirely VPO this time, with a bit of a change from how I usually do things, as basses are pizzicatos rather than bowed, which I think helped giving a different kind of sound to the part. Vocals, unfortunately, are still mine

Hope you'll like it!

What a good bonus track. Pity that you only sold one copy, but that's how it is. Too much music and not enough money going around. :(
The track is very lovely. I enjoyed the string passage a lot.

Really good job using VPO, the strings sound huge. Also, very impressive E2 note on vocals at like 0:16, and at the end!

I make music as Tenaba! Bandcamp

Thanks, it was fun scoring the strings part so it's good to know those worked nicely! On those bass notes, my voice is indeed on the lower end, but it's hard for me to go there and stay there: not sure if I really managed to do that here, or if it was just luck, but I'd definitely love to be able to sing like Nick Cave

This piece sounds definitely Nick Cave-ish with a doom metal vibe. I still have not listened to your album, it's in my backlog but as you might have noticed, lately I haven't been participating a lot to this forum :? (not because I don't like it, but rather because I have yet to find a balance in the many things I do).

(BTW, I don't know if you know that someone is actively developing rakarrack at https://github.com/stazed/rakarrack-plus)
