Saxperiment
I'm learning to play an alto saxophone. This was a very brief experiment to try arranging a three-part jazz harmony and then record it one part at a time.

Re: Saxperiment
Very short and to the point! The basis is sound, now I want more of that sound! Nice recording. The bass and drums sounded rather weak in comparison to the clarinet and saxophones. Those, however, sounded gorgeous! Both playing style and recording suited them very well!

Re: Saxperiment
Thanks Jeanette! I want to work on a bigger jazz production, but I feel like I need to take baby steps to get there. The clarinet and saxophone tracks were live recorded, while the bass and percussion are sfz samples, so that might explain why the former two have a better sound.

Re: Saxperiment
Short, but nice! All voices are well integrated with each other and the drum is varied without being distracting. Sounds very good for somebody who is "learning to play the saxophone".

This sounds nice and interesting! I want to hear more! I think you got the parts tight even though they are recorded one at a time.

Re: Saxperiment
Are you planning to learn how to play ALL instruments?
Great job, I think it sounds great already! I loved the vibe, maybe because I just finished playing Grim Fandango for the n-th time, and your tune reminded me of its very jazzy (and amazing) soundtrack. As a side note, you may be interested in the works by Randy Resnick, a friend of mine who's a great guitar player but, just as you, at a certain point decided to learn how to play the sax, and did very cool things with already.

Re: Saxperiment
I too want to learn sax (even though I still have a lot to learn on guitar!) and it's great that at least one other guitarist attempted it. At what age did he pick up the sax?Rainmak3r wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 10:17 am Are you planning to learn how to play ALL instruments?

As for @Michael Willis's piece, I think it works
