Change the game
Hey hey, finally, I'm proud to release: Change the game, featuring the Beccy Schaefer on vocals
https://youtu.be/NwzrJEvvEuE
It took me a long time to get there, but the wait was worth it in my book. Thanks to the wonderful Beccy for lending her vocals to this raunchy track and making it so much more.
The track is a mix between Ace Of Base, modern pop and Britney Spears. On the Linux side it feature Fluidsynth for e-bass, Yoshimi for some more bass layering, chord stabs and pad work, Csound for the very cool FM bass and kick and snare. Those are based on the Skryllex drum sound.
So mostly much of the usual magic, but with good vocals I put in some extra work. If anyone is interested, I can post the lyrics as well.
Enjoy and best wishes, Jeanette

Re: Change the game
It's great, my best compliments!
Probably you can improve the vocals in the first verse, maybe they sound too much out of the mix to me, but everything comes back to perfection when the chorus starts.
Great sounds. I wish I was able to get those bass and drums out of my Linux machine

Re: Change the game
Hey hey! Your new song starts mingling lots of fine and entertaining musical elements, must have taken a great effort,
on top of raw talent. Because of that strength, I think I'd add some more bars of the music, splitting the first
set of vocals at 1:08, giving the musical theme more time to hook the listeners.
There are a couple spots where a well-placed silence could put a little exclamation
on what was heard, (the ending has that type of flair) maybe a more prounced crescendo leading up to 3:39,
add a couple seconds of dead air, and restart the music with a percussion flourish as the next part kicks in.
A less dramatic version of that silence could happen at 1:44, to tease and prep for the next one.
Maybe it's my old ears, but I'd like the instrumental sections a bit louder, and/or give the higher frequencies a boost.
Perhaps some underlying punchy syncopation off the beat would be fun for the dancers?. mi dos centavos
Your ability to generate interesting and complex music is apparent throughout! Ms Spears would approve.

Hi @glowrak guy , thanks for your extensive feedback and the overall kind sentiments.
High praise indeed! <3glowrak guy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 11:49 am ...

True, I have to master that art yet.

There is an HF boost in place, much more would have been straining for the ears. Probably more precise boosts on a per track basis might have helped in favour of less general application of the shelf EQ up there.

The song as it stands has more of that Ace Of Base - or 80ish - viibe, because of the rhythmic structure. I have a feeling syncopation as such isn't the problem, but more courage to use swing.

Re: Change the game
Wonderful sounds!!! That bass is a killer, and I like the snare a lot too.
The mix is great too, and I like the singing too. I agree with another poster about moving "back" the vocals a bit, not in volume but more reverb or something...
Yes, Ace of Base and B Spears, 90s sounding. Nice bridge too!
Thanks for sharing, @jeanette_c!

Re: Change the game
Not my genre at all, but it was fun to listen to! And interesting you mentioned Ace of Base, as the intro did give me strong "All that she wants" vibes, bringing me back 30 years
