No hope

Post by jeanette_c »

Hey hey, No Hope is a simple song with guitars by Joy Bausch:
https://youtu.be/J9HDB1nrcm8
Lyrics:

Rolling dice,
Coming up with snakes' eyes.
They said: "You are promising.
We put our hopes on you."
But now, that I've fallen through,
There're lives to pay
For queen and king.
-
There's no hope
'Til everything's done.
I'll have to go
And do it on my own.

Loosing ground,
In every home I found.
When every hearth is cooling down,
And leaving in its wake
A void barred by blind and frigid doors.
A depth to drown
And no pity's sake.
-
There's no hope,
'cause everything is gone.
And when I go,
I have to go alone.

There's no hope,
'Cause everything is gone.
And when I go,
I wanna go alone.
***
Feedback is welcome. I so rarely work with acoustic guitar and feel I could have done better. So guitarists: could you point out typical pitfalls or suggest good processing tricks?

Nice song! I think you did a fairly good job with guitars. I understand that you had to mix them with other instruments in the arrangement and I believe acoustic guitars have to be processed to a minimum (only to make them present in a mix), thus I don't have any suggestions as a guitarist!

Many thanks @Basslint . I very much enjoyed working with the acoustic guitar. Coming from the mockup I recorded to get down the vocals and everything else, it made a huge difference and really brought this song to life, for me.

A beautiful song with great lyrics! The guitar adds a lot to the sound. Nice arrangement too!

I think your singing is continuously improving.

Gorgeous song, with beautiful chord progressions: at times it reminded me of Beatles, other times of good old French ballads. I think you did a good work with guitars, so no feedback to give there! I really liked the somber arrangement with the occasional strings and piano parts.

Thanks all of you! <3 It is balm to the soul to read all these comments. It took such a sad moment to write this song, but I'm glad for that in retrospect.
It feels even better though to be in a much better place now. :)
Once again I'd like to express my gratitude to Joy for his ready help and generous offer. Without his guitar this song would not have been half of what it is now.

This is very different from your usual style. Very nicely done.
