New Bandcamp Album - Other Times, Other Places

Post by folderol »

This is a mixture of majorly revised older tunes and completely new ones, all following an 'other world' theme.

Hi @folderol , as mentioned elsewhere: this is a brilliant trip through time. Not only can one compare these productions to earlier versions - where available -, but it is interesting to hear your development over time, the way your - not your style but - your focus shifted and your taste in sound. It's a fun album!

Very pleased you like this Jeanny.
The Avenger has a long and unique history. When first conceived I set up my only synth at the time (a Yamaha SY22) with 8 presets, switching between them while playing so I could play it through and record it straight to an open-reel taperecorder - I had no computer or other kit that could handle it. Needless to say, it had only the melody and bass lines. Also, on just one occasion I played it live at a local talent contest. That was in either 1993 or 1994 (not sure which) so you can say it has pedigree

P.S.
No it didn't win anything :(

The songs are very light in the best sense of the word! Positive, fairy tale-ish, playful. I like that! And the compositions match the soundscapes perfectly!

I think of Tangerine Dream and some Rick Wakeman record I have on vinyl that I don't remember the title of.

I have only listened to the 3 first tracks, so now I will continue my journey with the rest! Wait, The Last Unicorn, that was that improv piece -- I like it more now, great mix!

Thank you for sharing!

Ha! I wondered if anyone would pick that up. Glad you've enjoyed it so far.

@folderol did you do all tracks in Yoshimi? (hope the answer is not too obvious )

I always love your tracks. You make stuff that's distinctly electronic, that's something I really enjoy despite my appreciation of musical instruments. And I think that's the way to make electronic music.

In this album yes 100% Yoshimi. Actually, the only album I've released that isn't, is the Quietly Fading one. That uses a guitar track in a few places. Odd single tunes dotted around the 'net have a bit of a mixture.

Thanks a lot for that. I guess it's just the way my mop flops (as a lady friend once said)
