Resonate - an ethical streaming alternative

Post by caprenter »

Hello

I've recently been putting some of my music on Resonate, which positions itself as an ethical alternative streaming service.

I'm not sure if anyone else here is using it, either to listen to music, or to host their music, so that's why I'm sharing.

I like in particular because it's a co-operative AND it's code is open-source.

It works on a 'stream to own' model. You pay a small amount for every song you play. If you play the same song 9 times, then you will own it, paying in total about £1. (The pricing is structured such that pay very little for your first stream so that it's supper cheap to discover new music).

You might want to check it out if you are releasing tracks. The onboarding process is a bit manual at the moment - you submit a folder with your files and a spreadsheet of track data, and a human uploads it for you. Better processes are in the pipeline, so they are also looking for contributors to code/documentation/volunteering etc.

I know this sounds like a bit advert, and in some ways it is, I'm a fan, and a co-op member (by being on the platform you become a member) - but I think it fits with the ethos of this forum. Also apologies if this is not the beast room to post, but I figured it might be of most use to people making music.

Turns out I've got myself even more deeply involved over at Resonate.

I'm now doing a 4 weekly radio show that showcases the new releases on the platform.

I'm making the show using FOSS, but not all the tracks will be 'FOSS made' by any means.
Shows are on Mixcloud after broadcast, and linked from my website:

If anyone does have their work on Resonate, do let me know and I can look to include it in the radio show.

I want to do a mini feature where artists introduce themselves, we play one of their tracks, and then they recommend another artist on the platform and play a track of theirs.

If they are Linux musicians, all the better.
