One of my co-workers has been telling me about how his children are participating in the school jazz band, and one of them is learning how to arrange and record his own music. I invited them to come play at my house, along with another co-worker who plays piano and my neighbor who plays glockenspiel in a school percussion band. As usual, I'm the clarinetist.
We used several copies of The Real Easy Book. I set up mics around the room, all wired into a Focusrite 18i20. The percussionist is playing a digital kit routed to DrumGizmo with the Tchackpoum kit, and the rest of the instruments are recorded through the mics. We recorded about 45 minutes of material. I later listened through, picked my favorite piece, and produced this:
Jazz Jam Session 28 Dec 2021 - St James Infirmary
(Warning, @vonbiber probably won't like it)

Yes, the good times just ooze out of this one. There are a lot of instruments competing for those low-mids. Not sure what to do about that in a project like this, as I never record a live group performance. Maybe that's part of why live recordings always sound different than studio recordings?

Fun tune! I really enjoyed the live vibe. A couple of notes (not that I'm an authority):
* The tempo was maybe a bit fast for what is really a dirge tune.
* The comped piano was too forward in the mix: it was masking some of the solo goodness.
